No. Pittsburgh HAS to part with Meadows. We need another blue chip position player in this deal. I'm not sold on Bell, and neither are the fangraphs guys. They think he won't hit for power, and he's a DH basically. Meadows/Keller or Glasnow, based on who the Sox like better/Hayes/Lotto ticket is what it would take from PIT for me to make a deal. However it starts with Meadows and either Keller or Glasnow. No Meadows no deal with Pirates. None of those guys has the upside of Moncada and Kopech in my opinion.

Yeah, I think you're right. Glasnow, Keller and Bell is technically a fair deal, but it's not what this team needs. I think it's Meadows or bust.

If Meadows is off the table entirely, I don't think the teams would still be talking. I don't buy it.

I agree, Hahn knows exactly what value needs to be delivered to move Q.

Nothing to see here then about Q to Pirates then. Move along.

Exactly. If Hahn is still insisting on Austin Meadows, then there is no deal with Pittsburgh. The next 7 seasons of Meadows could be more valuable to them than the next 4 years of Quintana. Some Sox fans are failing to understand that. The Pirates aren't trading Meadows. They will trade McCutchen at midseason and plug in Meadows. This is how that team is forced to operate. Quintana doesn't push them past the Cubs. Pirates are probably willing to trade Glasnow, Keller, Newman possibly. Hahn insisting on Meadows is probably why a deal isn't done and not getting done in the future either.

Buy whatever you'd like. Meadows isn't an option. If he were, the deal would have been consummated. I feel like we did this same thing with Trea Turner and Alex Bregman. Not happening.

I want 0 parts of Josh Bell as the #1 hitting prospect we get back for Q. Meadows or bust from the Pirates, even if it means no Glasnow. Meadows, Keller, + 1 of Newman/Hayes/Craig + a lotto ticket young arm.

Not that I disagree because I'd rather have Meadows but what is wrong with Bell? Are you the one that said he was too much like Viciedo (which is completely inaccurate) a while back?

While this may be their mindset, it doesn't justify their decision. A top of the rotation starter on a cheap deal for four years is much more rare and valuable than an OF, especially when you already have two other stud cheap OFs signed long-term. If they trade Meadows, they could find another number of options to fill their third OF spot. They simply cannot find a single option to replace what Quintana would bring them. (Similar thing could be said for the Astros and Bregman.)

Took the words right out of my brain. Nice Job Buehrlesque. From the Sox perspective, they have to get that stud position player in THIS DEAL. Q is their last major trade chip. They can't trade it for more right handed pitching. We have enough of that. Ideally, the Q package only includes position players, or 1 pitcher in a 4-for-1 deal.

That's fine. It's not going to be Pittsburgh though. I still think Yankees and Astros most likely.

Then why would Hahn still be talking with Huntington if he was insistent on not moving Meadows? It sounds like Meadows is a must for the Sox.

Because of the first two deals, the Sox have to get a top position player as a headliner in this deal. Really they should be at least the top two players. More pitchers just puts the rebuild further behind.

SSK, what would you think about a deal with the Pirates that was Glasnow, Bell, Keller and Hayes? You don't get the position headliner, but you get 3 position players that would all be in the top 5 position players in the Sox system immediately. I doubt that deal is on the table, but if I'm Hahn, that's a deal I'd jump at.

I guess my point here is that the Sox don't need a position player as a headliner, but they do need the majority of the return to be position players, and position players that are top 150 or so prospects.

Those are 3 top 50 prospects, and another org top 6 that is top 100 for some publications. There is zero chance that Pittsburgh would trade all of that.

Maybe Hahn isn't insisting on Meadows. He may be asking for a number of others instead of the single headliner and the Pirates can't afford to give up that many quality prospects.

I don't think they are a suitor at all. Seems to me it's the Astros, Braves and Yankees in that order.

That does make the most sense. However, you never know if a GM gets a fire lit under him by a really good or really poor start to the season.

I would put the Cards in there too, and maybe some of this Pirate talk is an attempt to pry more value out of the Redbirds. With Reyes down they have a need to stay above the Pirates in the race for the wildcard. I like the Cards system a lot more than the Yankees system sans Torres.

Carson Kelly, Delvin Perez, Mags Sierra, Junior Fernandez, and Nick Plummer.

If Torres, Meadows, and Albies are off the table, I like this deal better than anything the other teams can put together. One bonafide MLB level player, two prospects that could be top 10 in baseball by the end of the year, a huge arm, and a lottery ticket in Plummer.

There is nothing about the Cardinals prospects that excite me.

I loved Perez in the draft last year and think he has a lot of talent, and it is starting to show. Sierra is another guy with a big ceiling and I think is going to put it together this year and jump up prospect boards. A ton of upside with those two and they could play along side Basabe and deepen that wave of prospects.

Kelly is an offensive catcher with solid defense and can hold that position down for the next 10 years. That is extremely valuable in a league where quality catching is hard to find. Probably not an all star level catcher, but a guy that can bring a lot of stability to the position and allow the Sox to devote FA resources elsewhere and let Collins bat carry him.

I still don't know what the Astros are doing. Springer & Reddick are under control for four more seasons. I get Tucker would be nice to slide in alongside those guys, but they'll have plenty of other internal options to fill that spot in the coming years. And Martes has a huge ceiling but also has huge question marks. I just can't fathom how those two guys would be off limits for a legit TOR starter that fits in perfectly with their competitive window. I really think Luhnow will regret not addressing this need during the offseason because the cost of elite pitching will only go up as we get closer to the deadline.

Tucker just turned 20 so it's not like he's blocked over the course of the next 4 years (maybe 3) since he can theoretically come up after they are gone as well or in the last year. Fisher is having a good spring so maybe he can push for a spot early in the season (if not on Opening Day roster). That would be 7 years of control for a likely corner outfield bat who can also play CF. You would think since they have Reddick and Springer for 4 years and then possibly Fisher for 7 (along with additional OF prospects), they should be open to dealing Tucker.
