Significant Seven: A-ball outfielders a systemic strength

With the huge improvements to the farm system, the focus has been heavily on Moncada and more so, pitching prospects. And for good reason. But the next most interesting grouping among prospects is probably the wave of outfielders who will open 2017 in A-ball.

 

Here's a look at seven notable outfield prospects you should keep an eye on, and which of the two Class A affiliates they are likely to be assigned to in April.

 

Which of them are you most looking forward to tracking? Who is over- or under-rated?

About half of the group has some big things to prove this year.

 

Booker and Schnurbusch were both old for rookie ball and need to show something in full season ball.

 

Fisher and Adolfo need to prove they can stay on the field for an entire season, and still have their numbers put up.

 

It would be really nice to see a breakout from someone like Adolfo, Rodriguez, or maybe a guy like Otano or Reyes to start to see some positives flowing out of Latin America.

Booker seems like an intriguing prospect. If his glove work , routes and arm are all as good as the article says along with his speed and outstanding stolen base percentage he seems like one to follow closely. If he develops he might be the closest thing the Sox will have to a true center fielder/lead off type .

There are other true CF's in the system. Engel and May for example. But among the seven in the article, he's the one most clearly a CF, though others (Call for one) might be able to stick there too. For Booker, the question is, will he be able to do enough with the bat to get on base enough. If yes, he will jump up the boards.

Of course I am aware of Engel and May it's just I am hoping his hitting and on base skills continue to advance more than Engels or Mays ever have while still continuing to be a good fielder.

Thanks. That is a good synopsis of the "org chart" within the minors. Good to see they have made changes but the "incestuous" comment is a little concerning although maybe more common than we think around baseball.
