Y2Jimmy0
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 07:51 AM) How is Benetti good at his job? I don't consider the same corny jokes over and over again and Sox math to make him "good". He's a professional broadcaster that is well versed in multiple sports and went to school for his craft. He is inherently more qualified than the current version of Hawk. Now if Hawk were the analyst, that'd be different. I grew up with Hawk like everyone else did. He takes over broadcasts though and minimizes Steve Stone. The Hawk schtick has run its course as far as the broadcast is concerned. The home games sound like a modern baseball broadcast. The road games are two guys doing separate games because of their dislike for working with the other on most nights.

I don't know how being "well versed" in say basketball, makes him a better baseball announcer. I like Jason, but there is no question Hawk knows a bit more baseball than he does. Jason is fine, and will only get better, but you mentioned modern baseball broadcast. What is so appealing about every broadcast from every team or network sounding the same? One thing I really like about Hawk's broadcast is it's uniqueness. The broadcast school, cookie cutter telecast is taking over. It's nice to have something different, and how it's set up now, you get some of both. Believe me, I am pro education, but there are things you really don't need a college degree. PBP for baseball games is one of them. Edited March 20, 2017 by Dick Allen

You may not. That's fine too. What's funny is analytics takes a decent sample size to really be accurate. I don't know how WAR and the like come into play on a daily basis. Hawk actually did use some advanced stats last year, and Stone throws them in occassionally too. What I don't understand is how you can like Steve Stone if modern baseball analysis and analytics are so important. He mentions wins for pitchers every day. And I don't know about you but I feel like Steve is much more arrogant when he's with Benetti than Hawk. Stone is cocky, but at least he knows his s*** for the most part. He's great at the mini games between the pitcher and batter. Benetti is laughably ignorant about some basic baseball stuff but he'll get better with time. Hawk is just dead to me, has been for about 5 years, and I used to love him.
greg775
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 18, 2017 -> 04:14 AM) Hawk should have left years ago. Did Hawk really say he's quitting? He is the best. Period.
Reddy
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 07:44 PM) A small part of my childhood will be gone. He's declined over the years, but I'll still miss ya big guy. My thoughts exactly. Hawk, for me, IS White Sox baseball. The day he's no longer shouting hawkisms will be a sad one for me. AJUribe
If you prefer Bennetti-Bot to Hawk l honestly feel sorry for you. Same goes for those weenies on the north side. Who cares if our announcer isn't "nationally respected" that stuff is for the birds. Hawk is our guy keep your cookie cutter weasels. greg775
This board is like America ... changing. So many people want cookie cutter announcers now and actually think Hawk is lousy. My gawd. Hawk does not speak in an annoying announcer voice. Same with Stoney. He is not a plastic announcer. He's real. I must admit I thought Benetti did a nice job last year and had a good rapport with Stone. Sox did a good job of picking Benetti who doesn't seem to be a corporate tool either. So in a nutshell, we've got people on this board wanting the Sox to lose every game. Check. We've got people who do not want to see our best prospects for a long long time on the big league team lest they be "rushed" and "flop like Beckham did." Check. Sad state of affairs. Give me Hawk. Give me rebuilds like the Yankees (spend spend spend and never be lousy!) Give me winning baseball not the crap the Sox have spewed out there in the Robin era. Man I really hope those 3 are in the rotation together at some point but in the best case scenario. Quintana and then 2 of Shields, Gonzalez, Holland being moved. Hell, moving all 3 of those guys and having to call up Volstad would even be a good scenario lol Edited March 23, 2017 by soxfan2014
