If cleared before June 15th then a team that has already blown through it's spending cap will likely go the extra mile to sign Robert as well

If he clears after June 15th then I could see the Sox being one of the favorites

Personally, I can the the mlb intentionally dragging its feet with this until after June 15th

Oh I know exactly how it works. No need explaining. Exactly why I said the Padres have to be favorites if it is during this signing period.

Agreed on all of this, but especially the last part.

I'd be ok with this if what you say is true. :)

If it's true the Sox have no agreement in place for any of the better players, it seems obvious they are positioning themselves for a shot at this guy no matter when he is declared.

If they aren't going to spend more than $300k or just slightly more the next period, if he's declared early, the 2 period penalty, in reality is just one. And if they are saving all their bonus if he is declared after 6/15, not being tied to anyone gives them more to throw at him.

Obviously they would prefer after 6/15, but if it before, unless they have some unknown commitments, I can't see them not going after him. Obviously price still matters. If he goes for Moncada money, there is no chance.

No way. If he is cleared in this current signing period, I'll put money on the Padres.

Sox could still in this period though. they don't have any big $$ commitments for J2. The plan could easily be to sign him either way.

I'm in agreement, I think the addition of Robert is well worth no $300k signings for two years and hopefully the Sox agree. To your point, the fact the Sox aren't linked to any of the top prospects in next year's class suggests they just might.

Theres going to come a point where they don't have money to spend, especially in a small market. I believe they are paying 54% of their payroll this season to players that are no longer on their roster. I don't think it would be as done of a deal as many think. The Cardinals, Braves, and Astros are all just as likely and have money to spend.

Do you really think the Sox are the frontrunners for Robert? I'd certainly hope so but they're hard to read because the front office keeps things quiet for the most part.

Provided he doesn't clear and is available I think its very possible the sox land him based off KW recent comments as well. I could also see moving vets before both deadlines to get comp picks from the marlins and O's if they both start out hot and intl bonus pool money from teams that are capped or indifferent to the international signing period.
