Holland may actually bring back something decent at the trade deadline...we'll see.

I will take lotto tickets for Holland and Shields no problem. An org's top 10-15 range A ball high upside guy. Just need to fill out the system with depth now. The top end talent is there.

Absolutely. And they should be taking shots on guys who get filtered out of systems. Just read a blurb earlier that the Giants expect to trade Clayton Blackburn. What could they honestly be asking for him? Seems like a guy that would make sense. Not a huge arm, but he's put up decent numbers, and what is there to lose?

I 'm glad Jones didn't completely melt down because I would've seriously second guessed the decision to take Swarzak out after he looked sharp. I already questioned not pinch running for Soto yesterday as soon as he got on late in the game. No sense worrying about being down to your last catcher at that point

2 questionable managerial calls this early in the season wouldn't be good and I am not even counting letting May hit at least one time he shouldn't have.

yep, I'm down for that. Heck maybe a little more. Look at Rich Hill last year....

And Robertson is pitching with authority.

I'm not even REMOTELY questioning any managerial moves yet...guess I'm still just giddy over having a someone with a pulse in the dugout managing this team. btw...I had zero problem with him PR for Davidson instead of Soto...with only one out...IMO it was the smarter call. But that's just my 2¢....

Overall I'm pretty pleased with what I've seen so far. The pitching has been fantastic. Hitting is it's usual April meh. Saladino has been great. Avi...PLEASE keep it up. Lot's of positives. Again...I love having a pulse in the dugout instead of a festering cold sore. ...

I am really liking how this rebuild is being set up right now. The Sox arent good enough to keep any kind of stretch of winning going so they will be bad enough. Its just great to see guys continue to play well with the hopes to flip them for a young player later.

My guess is they're saving Swarzak for Friday when Covey starts. Can't imagine him going any deeper than 4 innings.

Are we really questioning putting in Nate Jones in to begin the 8th?

That is the epitome of restrospective managing. You can't just use relievers who performed well in their last outing every time. Jones is a good reliever, he needs to get innings, and he has proven he can get hitters out more often than not. Swarzak has not.

Who is Swarzak and where did he come from?

hite Sox

I know questions like this are great for a message board but I know you have the internet with a search engine . :P

So I did it instead https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/01/whit...ague-deals.html

Something that link won't tell you is he is throwing harder now then in quite a while. I think he is hitting 95 on his fastball and it seems to have nice action on it. His command and control have been spot on in his 1st 2 appearances.

Yes I was. Swarzak had just completed a great inning looking very strong and sharp And it wasn't his last outing as you say but the inning before. Strong because he didn't pitch much if at all in the 1st 4 games. Jones had pitched the day before. One guy fresh and strong hitting his spots Made the Indians look bad thats how good he was. I know the whole schpiel on Jones is the 8th inning guy with a proven track record as such. During the off season I was in the minority wanting to keep Jones as the setup man instead of moving him to closer after Robertson is traded. I think he is great in that role and didn't want to move him from his comfort zones since he already has established plenty of value. So big Jones fan here. It's not some off the cuff remark. I gave it plenty of thought.

The opinion is just based on how damn good Swarzak looked in the 7th and Jones pitching last night. And I didn't second guess the move because Jones came on and almost coughed up the lead. I just thought he deserves to at least come out for the 8th and if the 1st guy gets on take him out. He deserved to be out there again .I think managing is as much intuition and common sense as doing things by the book and sometimes, if you're feeling it, when to throw the book out the window

Plus I recall Jones was on the WBC team and had a late spring with the Sox . There's plenty of 8th inning chances for Jones the rest of the year. I have watched many years of baseball and know my baseball. I just would 've done it differently. Play the hot hand .

There are two reasons to take Swarzak out. 1. They don't want to use him for multiple innings so that he couldn't be used the next day. 2. Jones is the #2 guy in the pen. They need to get him in and get his issues worked out during a game and that's his role.
