TheTruth05
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ May 12, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) Guys like Swarzak, Kahnle, Jones, & Putnam would all make sense for pretty much any contender. If things break right, the Sox could have 5 legitimate high leverage relievers to deal before the trade deadline. Absolutely this. There will always be a market for relievers, especially closers. The last couple seasons have proven that.
reiks12
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ May 12, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) Kahnle This is an interesting one because he is under control until 2021 and would be a great fit for when we are competing again. He is 27 years old. Of course if Hahn is blown away by an offer I would be happy to trade him, but I think we are better off holding onto this guy. BlackSox13
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 14, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) Who do they have left to trade us? More than enough. Robertson won't bring back Robles as part of a trade but the Nat's still have Fedde, Soto, Kieboom and Severino in their system all of which are quality prospects that should interest the Sox. I didn't include Glover since trading a reliever for a reliever doesn't help a team desperate that's for relievers. The Nat's easily have the pieces if Rizzo becomes serious about Robertson. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=was
Boopa1219
If it's Mets and Nats, that means the division race is pretty heated and that will drive up the cost.

He has never been a great hitter at any level? Unless he is the best defensive catcher ever then get another position player who has more offensive upside. He isnt even a top prospect for that Nats. I don't know how much of a factor the Mets will be with their injury issues. I would still hope the Sox could get something like Kieboom/Luzardo for DRob, but its still too early. I think next week at the very, very earliest.

Because he's only 23 and already playing at AAA to go along with his defense, framing and game calling. Yes, his bat is weak and there have been plenty of defensive catchers that were starters. Look no further than the Sox very own Officer Ron Karkovice. If given a choice between a good offensive catcher with weak defense or a strong defensive catcher with a weak bat, I'll take the defense every time. With Zack Collins improved defense this year I'm not sure we need Severino any more. That was the big question mark with Collins. But I would gladly take Soto and Kieboom. Besides, even if Collins sticks, 1) he won't be ready for a few years 2) will need a backup anyway. Let's not forget that Collins is still in Winston-Salem. maxjusttyped
Is Severino really *that* good defensively? His bat wouldn't be an upgrade over Narvaez and as a framer Narvaez rates as around average.

His bat wouldn't be an upgrade over Narvaez and as a framer Narvaez rates as around average. Everything I've read has spoken well of Severino's defense. Just an example. 12) Pedro Severino, C, Grade C+: Age 23, from the Dominican Republic, hit .271/.316/.337 with two homers, 19 walks, 45 strikeouts in 291 at-bats in Triple-A; hit .321/.441/.607 in 28 at-bats in the majors; that’s a small-sample fluke; in a larger sample he’s a .250 hitter without much power, though he is young enough that may improve eventually; superior defensive catcher with strong throwing arm and receiving skills; will last for years as a reserve and may eventually hit enough to get beyond that. ETA 2017. https://www.google.com/amp/www.minorleagueb...spects-for-2017 Not trying to sell anyone on Severino, just saying why I'd take him as a non-headliner. caulfield12
All the WALKS. Follow the Astros' high OBP and slugging philosophy, it seems to be working well for them at the moment (not to mention not pulling the trigger on a "put them over the top" trade as of yet). In that division, there's nobody really pushing Houston, either. Bregman is their 7th best hitter at the moment.
