Garland turns 24 tomorrow

A lot of 24 year old guys are just getting to the big leagues

So he still has upside. and plenty of it.

hope the Sox stick with him. Hate to see him go to another team and let them reap the rewards.

Farmer just corrected the record: Garland has no complete games this season, but one in his career, last year against Toronto.

Yeah u just hope KW doesn't pull another Todd Ritchie for Jon Garland trade, and watch Garland become a stud on another team, while we get stuck with another useless veteran. Hopefully he's learnt his lesson by seeing all the great young pitchers this year e.g Willis and Brandon Webb and seeing that's the way teams r goin now instead of paying high priced veterans big contracts. e.g Chan Ho Park.

JG pitches ok with no pressure , so what JG is a MAJOR underachiever and will always be a .500 pitcher

It will be interesting to see how JG responds when he pitches for a new manager. He's had plenty of time to become the phenom everyone thought he could be. Hovering around .500 lifetime for our number 3 or 4 starter isn't going to cut it. JG better catch lightning in a bottle next year cause he's s*** and it's time to get off of the pot Jon.

I think it is a LITTLE premature to consider JG an underacheiever....Hes still young and has proven he can dominate a game when hes on and consistent. Give him a few more years to before you pin an "underachiever" tag on him...

He's had 3 or 4 seasons now. His age shouldn't have anything to do with it when he's been pitching this long in the ML's.

But it does, CK. Mental maturity and discipline comes with age and experience. He's got the second hald already, but as he does older, he'll get there.

Garland will be fine, and in the long run, was well worth not only Matt Karchner, but the fact that we can say to Cubs fans "How's Matt Karchner doing nowadays?"

I think pitching for a different manager will be better for him. JM has had no confidence in Garland whatsoever, so Garland has had little confidence. Remember the KC game where we lost 13-9 and were winning like 6-3 and JM took Garland out in the 6th? That had to of killed the kid mentally for a stretch of 3 or 4 starts.

Give him time, and he will mature into a good pitcher.
