Lip Man 1
Former Sox outfielder Sam Mele died today at 95. He played with the club in 1952 and 1953. Was acquired early in the 52' season for Jim Busby, one of the original "Go-Go Boys" and a fleet center fielder. In two years he had 26 home runs, 141 RBI's, 10 triples and 44 doubles. But this was his main claim to fame with the club: June 10, 1952- In a game at Philadelphia, Sox outfielder Sam Mele set the franchise record with six RBI's in one inning. In the fourth inning of the game Mele hit a three run homer, then later on drove in three more runs with a triple. It was part of a 12 run explosion as the Sox won, 15-4.
