Everett, Alomar deals

I've been away for a while.  Is it now unanimous on the board that the deals for Everett and Alomar were ill-advised?  Or do we wait two more seasons to see how well Ring, Rupe, and Webster turn out?  There won't be any draft choices for Everett and Alomar either.

I still love these deals. Obviously this season didn't go as we all hoped but those deals really gave us new life. Also, Everett is the type of player that this team needs, someone who plays hard and with heart no matter the circumstances. I'm really not all that concerned with the prospects we gave up either. Webster is years away as is Rupe and Ring is will probably be nothing more than a setup man at best. Besides we already have a left handed reliever far better than Ring in Marte.

Sorry, Alomar and Everett were not the reason for the collapse.

The deals sent a positive message that the Sox were not packing it in in July.

Prospects are like suspects - line up any 5 and one MIGHT be the right guy.

I would do either of those deals again, and I really hope we can keep at least one of those guys.

I like Alomar.

Is Everett really that good in the clubhouse?

I'm not arguing; I'm just wondering.

I hadn't heard that about him.

I think we shld let Everett go and keep Roberto.

Isn't Reed the next Mantle?

Didn't ya hear the whole thing about Carl saying the young guys who haven't been up here long can have his share of the money he will get from the season for finishing second. He shows heart and I think the young guys will look at him as an example on the field.

Steve, the reason there won't be any draft choices from them is because if we offer them the required minimum offer, they will simply accept the offer, because it is well over there value, especially in the case of Roberto Alomar.  Alomar will have little if any demand for his services outside of Chicago.

Ah, I see what your saying. Thanks.

I won't cry over the deals. If Ring goes on to be a star or someone else does...thats the chance you take.

It meant a lot to White Sox fans to see the Sox go for it for the first time in a long time. That attitude will carry over next year as I think the Sox are winning back Sox fans. Especially if the team on the most part sticks together and maybe makes a few improvements.

The good thing about the Everett deal is that we didn't lose Pacheco. Texas was stupid for not taking him. He would have been in the Big Leagues with them this year.

I think both Alomar and Everett had a positive impact, so I don't think you can look back. In the back of my mind, I still think we could have gotten the same results with just Alomar and not Everett, but obviously that is arguable and there is no way to prove it.

I wouldn't count out the possibility of offering them arbitration. I think it would be risky, however, but anything could happen.
