Greg Hibbard
It's Cody Asche. Only Cody Asche could replace Cody Asche, you fools.
ChiSox59
Larry at SSS says it will be Gregory Infante. Infante is not on the 40 man, and would require a move to make space, I believe.
flavum
Infante's only major league time was with the Sox in 2010. Wonder what the record is for longest gap between first year and second year in the bigs? He has to be close.
ChiSoxFanMike
QUOTE (flavum @ May 15, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) Infante's only major league time was with the Sox in 2010. Wonder what the record is for longest gap between first year and second year in the bigs? He has to be close. Cesar Valdez comes to mind. He spent 2010 with Arizona, didn't play in MLB again until this year with Oakland.

ChiSoxFanMike
QUOTE (flavum @ May 15, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) Wow, that's quite a coincidence. Robinson Cancel started his career in 1999 and didn't play again until 2008, that's amazing.

ptatc
QUOTE (flavum @ May 15, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) I wonder if Soto goes on the 60-day...have a feeling he's toast for a while. That's a long time even if they need to do a scope and remove the loose bodies. But with the way they have been treating injuries this year, anything is possible. Jake
QUOTE (ptatc @ May 15, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) That's a long time even if they need to do a scope and remove the loose bodies. But with the way they have been treating injuries this year, anything is possible. You'd think they would be less likely to have Soto out longer than needed because he's on a 1-year deal and would be hoping to get back as soon as he can so he can build his resume for next year. ChiSox59
I don't think anyone is going to bat an eye if Alfredo Gonzalez or Cody Asche are DFA'd to make room. Probably Gonzalez because they probably would have just DFA'd Asche yesterday if that was their plan.

That is exactly what happened. Soto surgery, out minimum 12 weeks. The Sox got exactly what anyone would expect out of Soto, some homers, some painful throws back to the pitcher, and extended stays on the DL. His throw a back to the pitcher have to be the most absurd in history. That's not counting the yips.

Sleepy Harold
Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 7s Cody Asche was outrighted off the 40-man roster and accepted the assignment to Triple-A Charlotte. #WhiteSox 40-man is at 39.
caulfield12
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 15, 2017 -> 07:10 AM) I thought about it and it would just be soundbites of Hawk/Benneti/Stone saying his name lol I'll remember his homer and Harrelson going on and on about how he just missed another one (moonball to RF) in the same game. flavum
I'm taking it as the Sox were giving Asche the option of getting picked up by another team, and when nobody picked him up on waivers, he took the outright assignment.

That's crappy NL pitching for you. Flowers also posted a 110 wRC+ last year. His previous career high was 96.
