How would you rank Renteria so far?

I'm pretty pleased so far with Rick. He seems like the perfect guy to have for this rebuild with all the Latin Americans we have. What do you think of his managing so far?

 

I give him a B so far. Not much to complain about

He's an obvious step up from Robin.

 

Regardless, his lineup configuration is often questionable. Also, he orders bunts way too often- like, even more than Robin. If you ever find yourself ordering Jose Abreu to bunt with 2 men on, you need to reevaluate your strategies... yet, he orders bunts over and over and over, even from middle of the order hitters.

What a breath of fresh air over the staleness of Robin. Definitely B+....probably would have given him an A- if not for that amateurish bunting fiasco in Anaheim lol. I think this organization is very lucky to have him.

Didn't it come out that Jose bunted on his own? Anyways sox do bunt to much but overall I give him a solid B. He has a better handle on the pen and when to try and use the platoon advantage then RV. Not to mention he owns up to mistakes like the other night when he left in the starter one batter too many. Sss had a good article on it.

I like him. Team isn't very good without Melky and Cabrera having at least career norms at the dish, but he tries some interesting things. Generally I love managers who try to make things happen. When you're a team like the Sox, it's what you have to do to win

 

Excited for when he has a decent roster at his disposal.

Pretty much my thoughts. No matter what else he does the whole recruitment video thing is huge. Also , even though there's no way to prove it., you could debate how the 3 biggest break out players so far are all Latin in Avi, Leury and Yolmer. OK maybe Swarzak and Kahnle too but you get the drift.

I think there's a ton of value in having a bilingual manager. Did Robin even have any Spanish speaking coaches on the team?

I like him so far. It "seems" like our team doesn't do as much stupid stuff as the Robin era. And the team shows life at times, etc.

I'd give him a B for keeping this gawd awful team near .500. Nice job so far.

If you think the Chicago Cubs would have won the 2016 World Series with Renteria as manager then you should want to keep him.

 

If you think Maddon made the difference, then we should upgrade when the time comes.

 

No one will ever know, and the Maddon hiring was an excellent move proven to be correct, but I still just didn't like Renteria getting fired despite doing a great job because a better option came available. Similar to how I don't personally feel good about college football coaches leaving the season early to take a dream job, but I completely understand and would do the same thing. Maddon was the right guy to get, and they had to do it, but it wasn't fair to Renteria.

 

It's not like a manager will take over and start throwing complete game shutouts for us in 2019.

 

I believe the manager needs to keep his clubhouse motivated, be respected by all, be able to converse with his players and avoid making excuse-less mistakes.

From everything I hear and see he seems to be on the right track on all fronts and he hasn't even been here for half a season.

 

Kudos to him, Hahn, JR, Kenny, Jose & the White Sox on the Robert signing. Keep up the good work. Don't stop now boys!

As I posted yesterday, Anderson struggled in the 1/2 spots. So Renteria finally dropped him to 7 and he caught fire. At which point he moved him back to 1 and he went hitless. Luckily he moved him back to 7 again. The kid must feel like a yoyo

I wasn't a fan of the hire at first, but I really missed the boat on him and am pleased to admit it. The fact that he has managed before really shows after watching Robin's teams the last few years. His decisions are more calculated. It just seemed like everything with Robin was a "gut" feeling decision making process. And OK...I get it...he played a crap ton of baseball, his gut feeling means more than most. But Renteria knows the managerial gambles that work more times than not and makes his decisions accordingly. You don't stick with a SP who has given up 4 runs in the 8th inning to "see if he can battle his way through it." Gut feeling or not, that's NOT a savvy decision, it's stupid. You don't take out Chris Sale for the 9th inning of a close game because he's at 100 pitches (and still unhittable). You don't roll out Ronald Belasario as your closer night after night and watch him blow games by the HANDFUL. I feel like Robin would roll the dice on his gut feelings with decisions that should have been calculated and then play the decisions that require your "gut" by the book--with not much to back them up from a data standpoint. Renteria--whether the gambles pay off or not--rolls the dice on the right things and goes with his gut on the right things. He has a better base of managerial understanding behind the decisions he makes. Many times it's a guessing game...but you don't have to decide blindly. Play your percentages and draw from experience--that's all you have as a manager and Rick certainly has that and uses those tools with better timing--regardless of the outcome.

 

Obviously, I've not been in the clubhouse--ever...I'm speaking completely out of hunch here, but it seems like the guys are enjoying the game a little more and learning some things that are making them better players. I think he's the right man for this rebuild and could possibly build a connection with these guys that could transition to him being here when they get good.

 

Guys and gals...has anyone else had the feeling that the Sox are doing a lot of things right now? Outside of trading Quintana, Frazier and Robertson for Torres, Judge, Meadows, Robles, and Bellinger (THESE BOARDS! HAHA) it seems like a lot of moves the fans want to see, the team is making a reality. I can't believe the pace of this rebuild...we will feel it more when we start going through 5-15 20 game stretches, but at least we have front office news that keeps our heads nodding, "yes."
