Bob Sacamano
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) Avi is old news. Many fans like you want the mysterious future guy. I wonder if the young guy we take in the draft will ever have a stretch like Avi had to open this season. Some of his hits have been monumental. It's a fair question BTW. There are so many busts in the first round of the draft. Hope Avi continues to have a good season and doesn't flame out again but you can't take away what he did for 2 months. It's funny that before/beginning of the season when you used to say we should have gone for it this year and then went on to list every position we needed (spoilers: there was a lot with no solutions from you), you always listed a DH and an OF as needs. The OF would have replaced Garcia. Edited June 8, 2017 by soxfan2014

jenksycat
QUOTE (MEANS @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? He's had some of the biggest hits in franchise history this year. If you don't believe he's a locked in All-Star for the next 10 years then you're crazy. If he goes into a month long slump and you don't say they should have cut him in the offseason you're also crazy.
ptatc
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 09:04 PM) Still doesn't matter. Getting the #1 pick means you get your top guy guaranteed + more money to spend overall. You're still banking on your scouts, but if you don't trust them then the franchise was doomed regardless. I swear everyone arguing against this seems to think the only 2 options are: Lose 100 games and get the 1st pick or win 99 and get the 29th. We're talking about a garbage team that's already a lock to get a top 5 pick, lose a handful more games and now you're getting the #1 pick. Complete nonsense to not want that. This is the part I would disagree with for a couple of reasons. 1. The better the team plays the better the individuals are playing thus more trade bait. I would trust a player who has shown progress in the minors more than the draft picks. 2. as the minors players come up, if they play well the team will win more. The other side is the team losing because Moncada et al. are playing poorly.

greg775
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) I said this earlier in the thread, but I'm also no rooting for all individual players to do poorly. I want Avi to be a real baseball player, Q/Gonzo/Shields to all pitch well enough to be traded, Frazier to remember how to hit, etc. etc.....But I also want them to lose as many games as possible. I know both of those may not be possible, but that's what I'm 'rooting' for. Hopefully we can unload at the deadline and have those losses pile up. I really think the people that want the Sox to lose every game would be a fascinating study for a thesis on the brain of a sports fan. I think it would be discovered that deep down you are oh, so content during a so-called rebuild because you can puff your chests out and brag to Cub fans and others who would normally mock you or console you after a loss. You don't have to have your pride out there night after night during the season, your mood dependent on whether the White Sox win or lose. Now, thanks to the "rebuild" (lol on rebuild), you can (illogically but in your minds logically) smile at the antagonistic Cub fan or friend and say, 'What? I wanted to lose tonight. I got exactly what I wanted, a loss." The Cub fan or other person mocking you or consoling you for the Sox loss might add, "Oh you wanted them to lose cause you've finally come to your senses and stopped being a Sox fan?" You then would respond: "No. I want them to lose cause we are rebuilding and I want us to get the No. 1 pick in the baseball draft preferably but top three would be OK I guess." And that fan would say, "Oh," and leave the scene with the same look we all had today after John McCain's bizarre conversation with Comey. SCCWS
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 07:25 AM) Jesus someone is obsessed with this. This rebuild but lose is very hard. I guess every time Robertson comes in for a save, I should hope he pitches well but costly errors by players other than those positional players we hope to trade blows the save. Maybe that explains the error problems Anderson seems to be having.

Maybe that explains the error problems Anderson seems to be having. We've been through this. Cheer for the team to win, but accept the fact they're going to lose plenty of games regardless. The only time we should cheer against them IMO is those last few weeks when draft position is much more apparent. Otherwise, enjoy the team however you can. Like if they get to the point where they need Cody Asche's to be playing every day simply because they don't have bodies, yeah, that's fine, I don't care. When the rotation is something like Rodon, Fulmer, Lopez, Giolito, and Holmberg on August 1st, yeah, I want those guys to take their licks because they need to figure out how to pitch at the MLB level and how to adjust. That's part of growing as a pitcher. Those could be a really ugly two months but still a very important two months developmentally. If they are already at the point where they're putting up sustainable 3.50 ERAs, then great, but I doubt that is going to be the case. Frankly, I'm hoping for something around 12-15 games under around the deadline. It would mean they've played well enough in the month and a half leading up to the deadline that there were positive performances, but it's still pushing the team towards a higher draft position. Also, I think this is where some of it gets lost. I'm sitting here openly saying "I hope they lose more games than they win leading up to the deadline," yet at the same time I'm hoping they win each individual game. It's looking at the immediate results versus the big picture. You can hope they win on a daily basis yet still see the forest for the trees. Some young pitchers never recover from that. I think he will judge who he can rush to the majors and who it may have an adverse effect. Really love the "rebuild" bit you got going on like it's some hoax or sham were being fed. I don't understand why you don't think it's a real thing happening right now (fyi, it is real, evidenced by our current 4th worst record in all of baseball), but hey, to each his own right? I wish there was a case study on the mind of greg to see what makes him tick, now that would be interesting!

Giolito is probably the one out of that group who wouldn't get the call, as I think they want him continuing to refine his mechanics at the minor league level. All the same, young pitchers struggle, and bad pitchers struggle too. Some of those guys will be up against their inning limits, so it might be best to run with AAAA pitchers like Pelfrey and Parnell to eat innings too. Panerista
Greg's attitude regarding Cubs fans gives Sox fans a bad name. IF you invoke the Cubs, it best be because they successfully did what we're trying to do now. If a Cubs fan gives you a hard time about how bad the Sox are, bring up the 2013 Cubs lineup on your phone. If you are this concerned about what Cubs fans think, your fandom is as fickle as your intellect.
