Kopech is the trophy in that Sale deal. Moncada should/will be great, but Kopech can be stat for stat replacement of Sale.

“At the top of the list for Michael at the start of this season would essentially be one, take the ball every fifth day,” Hahn said in an interview with Danny Parkins on 670 The Score on Thursday. “Which is something he hasn’t done yet as a pro, which I think people lose sight of. Two, it’s ideally continue to compete at the advanced placement level that we put him in at age 20, 21, putting him in the Double-A Southern League. And he surpassed both of those with flying colors. Not only has he been able to take the ball every fifth day and thereby surpassed his innings max over the last few years. But even as he’s passed that amount and gone into uncharted territory for himself, he’s actually, as you referenced, improved over the last five or six starts.

“He has not shown any ill effects from having gone past that innings mark, which you do see over the course of other players’ development. So even if his season were to end here today or if he only ends up making three or four more starts, whatever he’s got left on the schedule, I think it’s safe to say it’s been an extremely successful season for Michael despite being placed at a challenging and advanced level for his age.”

Kopech was named the Southern League Most Outstanding Pitcher on Wednesday, deemed the Double-A league's top hurler. He's the first Birmingham Baron to win the award since Mark Buehrle. And things turned out all right for the White Sox and No. 56.

This is far too premature. If he gets injured early in his career and can't live up to his potential, he and the white sox will be criticized for allowing him to do this.

If he goes on to the HOF, he'll be put in the Nolan Ryan category of "genetically he could handle it whereas most can't" unless others duplicate it.

However, you can't teach that type of dedication and determination. That's really what you have to like about this guy.

If only there was something in-between!

Scott Merkin‏Verified account @scottmerkin 6m6 minutes ago Michael Kopech, the No. 3 RHP prospect per MLB Pipeline's rankings announced today, is getting close to the big leagues. As White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper said, "For a lot of these guys, not only Kopech, their time is coming.":

Michael Kopech, SP, Chicago White Sox (Triple-A): Twice in his last five starts, Kopech has gotten lit up, and more than one scout has wondered if he’s bored biding his time before he arrives in the big leagues. The biggest issue, according to one scout, is Kopech’s off-speed pitches. He’s not throwing them for strikes, and it has allowed hitters to sit fastball. And while that fastball sizzles in at 96-97 regularly and has helped him accumulate 70 strikeouts in 53 1/3 innings, Kopech can’t subsist solely on one pitch. There’s room to grow, and seeing as how bad the White Sox are, there’s no rush to bring the 22-year-old to Chicago.
