bmags
Fathom you are unbelievably dramatic. But that is probably your worst post. I too am shocked a starting rotation of Miguel gonzalez, Derek holland, mike pelfrey and David holmberg is bad.
Ducksnort
For once, our bats and (mostly) our defense is not the issue, it's the pitching.
flavum
Royals and Sox will both be 24-30. Royals 9-18, then 15-12 Sox 15-12, then 9-18 I'll take our trend.
bmags
QUOTE (Scoots @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 04:39 PM) For once, our bats and (mostly) our defense is not the issue, it's the pitching. That inning could easily have been 1 run or less without stupid decisions and a blooper 2 inches from being caught.

I too am shocked a starting rotation of Miguel gonzalez, Derek holland, mike pelfrey and David holmberg is bad. Just referring to Q and Gonzalez. Couldn't even tell you what Pelfrey's ERA is. Holland was a wild card all along. I personally thought the pitching has underachieved the last few years (not this one)

Holland was a wild card all along. I personally thought the pitching has underachieved the last few years (not this one) We picked up MiGo after him getting cut by the orioles terrible staff. He has been very good for what he was. No more a wild card then Holland.
Ducksnort
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 05:40 PM) That inning could easily have been 1 run or less without stupid decisions and a blooper 2 inches from being caught. And if only that fence was extended 5 more feet...this is baseball. Stuff happens. For the most part, our losses have been happening as a direct result of poor starting pitching, which I mean is to be expected when you have a rotation consisting of the pitchers we have. caulfield12
Unless you want to blame Cooper for Q....blame Hahn, too. Holland and Pelfrey have been better than expected. The White Sox bullpen thrived actually until this week behind a back four that amazingly included Kahnle, Swarzak and Jennings. Eventually they were due to hit a wall like last year. Overused. Plus the defense has been pretty bad behind them. Edited June 3, 2017 by caulfield12

fathom
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 09:58 PM) James Shields starting for Charlotte in ten minutes... Zack Collins apparently heard the criticism aimed in his direction!! I like Collins, just worry he's going to be a .225 or so hitter in the majors. With how much he walks, should be fine but he can be special if he can hit in the 260s
caulfield12
Could be worse....34 of last 35 DBacks' hitters have made outs. A measly walk. Edited June 3, 2017 by caulfield12

Yah seriously. And none of them were close. Tim is going to need to adjust soon or the rest of the league will catch on, just like they have with Melky and the shoulder high straight fastballs. Either swings through em or pops em up.

caulfield12
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 04:53 PM) We play in an incredibly offense-oriented park... Park-adjusted should tell a different story. And, other than Sale and Q, what good pitchers have we had the last five or so years? It's not like 2006 when you had Contreras, Garcia, Garland, Buerhle, Javy and McCarthy to start the year. The talent has been short, with lots of bad drafts and reclamation projects to fill in holes.
