winninguglyin83
John Rooney just asked JM on the pre-game show if this was his last game as the Sox manager. Jerry said he would rather not answer the question and that everybody would know the answer to the question on Monday at this time. Then he thanked Rooney for being his friend for six seasons. Bottom line: Word is coming down on Monday.

winninguglyin83
With the Bears opening the new Soldier Field against the Packers, the Cubs in Atlanta to start the NL playoffs on Tuesday night, a Monday announcement makes the most sense. Reduces the number of negative columns in the Chicago papers.
SnB
I still say they sell they have the press conference at home plate at the cell and sell tickets to it. While JM's making his exit, they have the fireworks shooting off and everyone singing.....NA NA NA NA, NA NA NA NA, HEY HEY HEY, GOODBYE I know i'd go
Chisoxfn
I'll try to watch that press conference. I'm assuming there will be an announcement tomorrow morning saying when it will be. I wish Jerry the best. He's a good guy, but things just didn't work here. I do believe if he took over in Philly he'd lead them to the playoffs. The Critic
I do believe if he took over in Philly he'd lead them to the playoffs. I agree with this. I think the Phillies would be so happy to be rid of that psycho f***head Bowa, that they would THRIVE under the laid-back JM style. This Sox team is not suited for a laid-back leader. They have proven that without someone in their faces, they fall into a slumber WAY too easily.
winninguglyin83
Farmer and Rooney said on the radio that the four names they have heard are (in any order) LaRussa Guillen Bell Gaston.
southsider2k5
Farmer and Rooney said on the radio that the four names they have heard are (in any order) LaRussa Guillen Bell Gaston. Guillen, as in Ozzie? Wow, that is a surprise!
The Critic
I'd be surprised if LaRussa (1) is let go and (2) comes back here. Not really against it, but Tony has been making some weird decisions the past couple fo years, so I'm wondering if he's losing interest. Guillen would be an interesting move, but another novice? Don't know if that's the way to go, either. ( But I have a feeling that the Sox WILL hire a novice... ) Bell or Gaston are proven commodities, you kinda know what you're getting with either of them. Gaston has led teams to titles before, so I'd be comfortable with him, I guess. I don't know who would be a sure-fire exciting manager to bring in, though. winninguglyin83
Guillen, as in Ozzie It could work if he surrounded himself with some veteran coaches. his personality is similar to Pena's. High octane. Plus, he's a fan favorite. Hopefully, he learned something watched McKeon work his magic with the Marlins this summer.
The Critic
But then Willie Harris would have to give up his number AGAIN. Unfortunately, number 12 will probably be available again...

Guest JimH
I'd bring in a veteran manager and bring in Guillen as a coach ... assuming a new manager would agree. LaRussa as manager and Guillen as one of the coaches, that would be nice. Guillen as manager? Maybe later, not now. We need experience. winninguglyin83
could be but how experienced was Grady Little before he took over Boston? Ken Macha before he got the job at Oakland? Or Tony Pena at KC? surround Guillen with the right guys and I think he could bring a lot of plusses. the guy played shortstop in the big leagues for a long time. He knows the game. Only thing I worry about is that he was never the most patient hitter. drew very, very few walks. Hate to see our guys keep hitting like that. Soxplosion
I dont like JM as a manager but Im sad hes leaving. Dont know why...
Chisoxfn
I'm kind of getting excited over the idea of having Guillen. Thomas said some good things about him and you hear a ton of good things out of Florida in regards to him. I like the Sox coaching staff on the most part and I think the only real change should be a new manager. Coop has done a good job...Santana has (Look at how much jose improved defensively and how much the team did). Walker did good too.
winninguglyin83
Coop is a keeper Walker also had a positive impact and Raffy Nossek is a big plus on the bench as a sign stealer and long-time veteran. I think Ozzie could work with those guys

Soxplosion
I agree Jas. He may actually be a good manager, but his style doesnt work here. I wish good luck to him wherever he ends up...
TLAK
theoldroman Posted on Sep 28 2003, 05:21 PM I agree Jas. He may actually be a good manager, but his style doesnt work here. I wish good luck to him wherever he ends up... Baloney, he is not a good manager. He's got a pitcher going for a no-hitter in the Seventh with a 5-0 lead and leaves Everett in left field. I like Everett but he's no golden glove. A ball that Rowand would have caught easily falls in. I also thought about Roberto for Aaron Miles. If you have a chance to accomplish something great you have to go for it and try make it happen, he just waited around hoping. The story of the whole season. Soxplosion
The Royals still got two hits after that so your argument is irrelevant...
supernuke
I really hope its not Gaston. He only won two world series because he had the right players all he had to do was copy out the same line up card 162 times and he was done for the year. Spiff
JM is a good man. The team needs a new manager, but despite his bad choices I've always respected him.
greg775
Let's go for Guillen. We'll be the feel good story of next year. Maybe Ozzie would even pinchhit a few times like Minnie Minoso. I want Ozzie if I can't have fisk. We don't want LaRussa and we don't want Bell for gosh sakes. Cito might be OK.
