southsider2k5
Updated for Burger signing. The Sox saved just under $500k there. They have about $250k in savings to realize from their 9th and 10th round picks who are both seniors and should sign for around $10k, giving them at least $750k, (if they don't save on Sheets on Gonzalez) to spread around to other picks. NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) Crean and King have already been dismissed as "buddy picks". Not signing. Probably not, but can't confirm yet. Crean has actually said he's considering it, especially now that he dropped his Indiana commit.
thxfrthmmrs
So the only HS kid that we have a small chance of signing is Dylan Horvitz, 38th round pick. Not much scouting report available on him, likely not a projectable prospect. Even if we have leftover money from the underslot signings, it doesn't look like it's an exciting year for draft pick signings.
southsider2k5
With amounts being released for Burger, Gonzalez, Johnson, Dedelow, and Olson, the Sox are $825,900 ahead of their draft pool cap.
thxfrthmmrs
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) With amounts being released for Burger, Gonzalez, Johnson, Dedelow, and Olson, the Sox are $825,900 ahead of their draft pool cap. Is that the number before they go into pick penalty? They should have gamble on a couple of high schoolers at the start of Day 3.

For any pick after the 10th round, you get a free $100k, so in theory we could offer that overage amount, plus $100k to anyone one person in rounds 11-40 and not go into the penalty phase. NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 03:50 PM) Yes. For any pick after the 10th round, you get a free $100k, so in theory we could offer that overage amount, plus $100k to anyone one person in rounds 11-40 and not go into the penalty phase. This year it is all dollars above $125k per player for rounds 11-40 that applies to the pool.
thxfrthmmrs
After Skoug and rest of top 10 signs, we may still have $400K plus the $100K base offer, which could be enough to nab a mid-tier high school or JuCo kid. We may very likely just be pocketing the money after the Robert signing, which is disappointing.

thxfrthmmrs
Gave him the bonus of a 34th pick, but was ranked from 57th to 68th prospect per BA, MLB, and ESPN. Pretty sure no one else would have gave him $600K above slot.
Springfield Soxfan
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) Gave him the bonus of a 34th pick, but was ranked from 57th to 68th prospect per BA, MLB, and ESPN. Pretty sure no one else would have gave him $600K above slot. Stunned that the Sox had to go this high above slot to sign him. Maybe other teams wanted to pick him earlier and the price tag scared him away.

southsider2k5
As bonus numbers have come in for Sheets, Abbott, Kincanon, and Yurchak, the White Sox are sitting at $179,500 ahead of their bonus poll allotment. Out of the top rounds 10, Henzmen, McClure, and Skoug are still playing in the College World Series and are not able to sign yet, but the rest of the top 10 is all signed. Outside of the top 10, Kincanon and Yurchak both got $150k bonuses (in rounds 11 and 12 respectively) are are counting an addition $25k towards the Sox bonus pool number. thxfrthmmrs
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) Yet there were analysts surprised he wasn't picked higher The fact that he wasn't, and that he was universally ranked lower than he was drafted tells me he won't get overslot from many teams, especially whopping $600K overslot. I think this could really impact our ability to sign Skoug.
fathom
No doubt the Sox knew what they had to do to get Sheets to fall to them. With that said, they also know exactly what Skoug needs to sign. Not worried at all

I think this could really impact our ability to sign Skoug. Skoug is signing. Sheets isn't impacting anything. Teams don't take guys in the top 10 rounds that aren't signing. thxfrthmmrs
At end of the day, we aren't siginig any high schoolers, so if Sheet signs for overslot but we still sign Skoug, I'm sure no one would complain. But I think many has expected Skoug to be an overslot signing.
southsider2k5
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) Skoug is signing. Sheets isn't impacting anything. Teams don't take guys in the top 10 rounds that aren't signing. What Sheets changed is that I thought they might actually save a bit of money on him, not take a $600k additional pool hit. What that means is that there will be no more high school kids signed. There just isn't going to be any money left. By the time the last three guys in the top 10 sign there will be around zero extra pool dollars left over.
