Police in the upmarket Washington DC suburb of Alexandria said they were investigating a "multiple shooting" and a suspect was in custody. Fox News said House of Representatives Majority Whip Steve Scalise and aides have been hit by gunfire. Police tweeted they were "investigating multiple shooting 400 block E Monroe St. Suspect believed in custody." Steve9347
Gunman is middle-aged, white man, heavy set based on eye-witness accounts. Thank goodness for that.
caulfield12
I'm going to speculate this can be traced back to the health care debate....prayers for all those shot/wounded....and it's terribly unfortunate it might take something like this to bring back a sense of bipartisanship in the US. There's a risk that Trump's going to attack, as obviously a number of articles will indirectly (and some more directly) assign responsibility to the hyperpartisan political atmosphere that's permeated our country for the past two years now. A gunman opened fire on Republican members of Congress during a baseball practice near Washington early on Wednesday, wounding several people including House of Representatives Majority Whip Steve Scalise before being taken into custody, police and media reports said. The shooter appeared to be a white male, "a little bit on the chubby side," Representative Mo Brooks told CNN, adding that he only saw the man for second. Brooks said he heard 10 to 20 rounds from the gunman's rifle before the security detail returned fire. He said there were 20 to 25 members of team at the practice in Alexandria, Virginia, when the gunfire erupted. caulfield12
Supposedly, the story is emerging that the gunman asked if there were Republicans or Democrats practicing on the field, but it hasn't been 100% corroborated yet. Rep. Congressman Beyer of Alexandria (VA) thinks it is probably someone with a serious mental illness.

caulfield12
Scalise was hit in the hip and is in surgery now. Five total people hit, includes gunman. So four victims. Female US Capitol police officer...and at least one aide hit. Now they're saying fifty rounds and this whole situation lasted 10-15 minutes. Gunman shot as well. Had a rifle. Cspan caller reminding how Trump said voters should exercise their Second Amendment rights during the campaign..aimed at Hillary?, perhaps, and another pointing out that the new admin made it easier for mentally ill people to apply for gun permits. caulfield12
Senator Jeff Flake (Az) apparently is the one who came to Scalise's aid first...helped stop the bleeding and called Scalise's wife. Pictures coming out of the Democratic team (another field nearby) praying...charity softball game was supposed to be held tmrw at Nationals Field. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/28/politics/gun...rule/index.html Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump Tuesday signed a measure nixing a regulation aimed at keeping guns out of the hands of some severely mentally ill people. The original rule was part of a series of efforts taken by the Obama administration to try and curb gun violence after other efforts failed to advance in Congress. Using the Congressional Review Act -- which allows Congress to roll back regulations imposed by the executive branch -- the Republican-controlled House and Senate voted to send the bill to Trump's desk. What was the rule? The regulation, finalized in December under Obama's tenure, required the Social Security Administration to disclose information quarterly to the national gun background check system about certain people with mental illness. bmags
QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) I expect more of this as Trump and his Republican ilk continue to try to cater this country to a select few people. There is no justification for this. They are using political means and it should be met with political means. Violence has no place there.
