Yeyson Yrizarri, INF, 1.9 KATOH+ WAR – Scouts are still largely projecting Yrizarri as a shortstop despite the fact that his body has thickened considerably since he signed. He’s an explosive quick-twitch athlete with elite arm strength and solid actions, so even as he loses prototypical shortstop range, he has a chance to stay there. Some scouts have him projected in a utility role, not because they think he’ll have to move but because they don’t think he’ll hit enough to play every day. Yrizarri has good bat speed, has significantly improved his footwork in the box since signing, and has solid hand-eye coordination, but he almost literally swings at everything. He walked nine times last year and severely limits his own ability to reach base beyond what is acceptable even at short.

Not a bad addition for slot money.

Interesting pickup. He was the #17 ranked prospect for the Rangers. He seems like a "let us take a flier" on this guy type of prospect. I wonder how much of the International slot money that the White Sox had to send.

Whatever it was, they obviously weren't going to spend it. This guy got $1.35 million to sign. Hopefully he is a late bloomer.

Honestly, this is the type of prospect I assumed we would get for Frazier. And to get him for literally just slot money is amazing.

He will likely wind up as nothing, but the skills are loud and hard to teach. Good bat speed and offensive upside from a guy who can competently play SS? Wow. Kinda amazed Texas gave him up for just slot money.

Since the Sox are going to be under penalty anyway, is there any reason not to trade all of it if they can? Is there any financial tax involved for going over?

Heck, theoretically from the Rangers point of view, if they were over their pool, trading one player away to prevent a 2 year penalty is an incredible bargain.

So that's almost Adolfo money. Still a young guy. Even if he doesn't improve discipline, if he could develop double digit pop while staying at short, he could be an interesting B or C level prospect.

Sounds like this kid has some tools, but almost no plate discipline. I'd send him to Kannapolis and let him start everyday at SS. Still very young, so there is still some hope for him.

Meh.. he's young but that's about it. I think Rondon is the much better prospect for example. But nice to have a glove in the lower levels to help the pitching.

So basically, they are getting Yrizarri for, uhh, free, I guess?

We could have used it but only on 300k chunks. But because of Robert uncertainty it seems we did not have many deals in place. The late start may have led to them realizing there aren't 10 300k guys left and just traded a sum toward the rangers otano fund.

This was good though, guy seems better than what we sent to oriole's.
