Molto
why don't we trade Magglio Ordonez, Paul Konerko and $3 mil to the Dodgers? right now, they have one outfielder (Green) and no first-baseman (McGriff is retiring), with Burnitz and Jordon having options that they would be stupid to pickup. obviously we will have to get a couple strong, young players for Ordonez, maybe even take on one of their medium-priced players. I'd hate to lose Ordonez, but if this team is going to want to focus pitching, along with keeping guys like Everett and Lee, Ordonez and his $14 mil will have to go. how is that Izutris kid they got? I haven't really seen him play so I can't comment on him, but he is a pretty good young shortstop, no? at least i hear he has some defense nad speed to him. if that is the case, I wouldn't mind getting him as the one of the players in return. Molto
if the Sox want to keep their pitching staff, this is how much it will cost (on the high end, rounding up or down). Colon - $11 mil Buehrle - $3 mil Loaiza - $4 mil Garland - 500K (?) Schoeneweis - $1 mil Gordon - $6 mil (he is looking for closer money, although I think that would be too much for him) Marte - 500K (he should get a deal worked out) Koch - $6.5 mil Wunsch - $1 mil Sullivan - $3 mil Wright-500K that right there is $36.5 million, we are looking at a $60 mil payroll roughly (on the high end). with that, we may have to go with this type of offense: Aaron Miles (Harris?), 2B Aaron Rowand (Harris/Borchard/Reed?), CF Carlos Lee, LF Frank Thomas, 1B Carl Everett, RF Joe Crede, 3B Ross Gload (Daubach?), 1B Miguel Olivo, C Tony Graffanino (shortstop acquired in a trade for Ordonez), SS that right there is roughly $23 mil only way to keep Ordonez is if Thomas opts for free agency and Everett and/or Sullivan, and/or Gordon are left unsigned. I wouldn't exactly mind that offense, IF we have the right manager to go with it, but I'm sure many would be a bit disappointed at its lack of fire power. but it does have much improved speed, energy, fundamentals, and to an extent, defense, skills. gonna be a rough and interesting off-season. Itzuris is a fantastic defensive shortstop. Offensively he's still growing, but I think he will turn into a productive offensive player. If the Sox could get Mota and Odalis Perez as well as Itzuris then I'd say heck ya. Don't know if that would happen though. Then the Sox would have 20 mill available to sign Colon an bring in Castillo at 2nd. Then they use Everett and they have a good outfield or they could make a push at someone else they like. Chisoxfn
I think Gordon will be gone. The Sox are gonna get some draft picks for him and he was very productive. I'd call it a productive move. The Sox should look for someone more stable. See who stays out there. Relievers aren't making as much as they were two years ago and some good ones will be out there as they are everyyear. The Sox need to have two really good guys around Marte...and thats not counting Koch.
Molto
IF we don't sign Gordon, I'd bring back Sullivan, sign Wunsch and go and get another righty (Hawkins? Grimsley?). Hawkins teaming up with Marte would be unbelievable. IF Gordon is asking for $6 mil and WANTS to be the closer -- a role I personally hate -- I'd look elsewhere, because I think we can easily get another righty like Gordon for $3 mil. bulokis
Marte and Hawkins, sounds unhittable. It will be great to add Hawkins look at these numbers. Marte with an ERA of 1.58, 87 SO Hawkins with an ERA of 1.86, 75 SO.
winninguglyin83
I notice that in the post-press conference interview, KW mentioned more 'GRINDERS," expanding the list from Everett and Lee to include Maggs, Graff and Crede. That means he did NOT include Frank, Paulie, Jose and Robbie. That certainly seems like a clue about what he plans to do. I'm sure he'd like Frank to leave. If he doesn't, Paulie has to be a goner. And Jose is also on the way out.

Hawkins would be a great pickup, solidfying our Bullpen and taking away an asset from our main division rivals. Flash won't be back, he'll be closing prob for Philly. Sully should be brought back, he's an innings eater as shown from his days with da Reds.
southsider2k5
I am guessing that LaTroy wants to go somewhere and close again. Or if he doesn't he is going to the Yankees who need pen help badly.
CubKilla
Soxfest, the only thing you and I agree about is a distaste for KW. The question is why in the hell are you even a Sox fan if you so negative? Who pisses in your Cheerios every morning? You'd find something to b**** about 5 minutes after the Sox made the last out in the World Series. If life is so bad as a "long suffering" Sox fan, just quit and be done with them. Spare us all the negative babbling. Sox have not won a playoff series since 1959, a playoff game since 1993. You call it negativity if you wish , but I am not in dreamland saying everything is great for the Sox, sorry if being a realist about Sox baseball is hard for you to accept. If it bothers you that much skip my post, but it is called Soxtalk /not Rextalk. I, for one, appreciate anyone that posts so direct and to the point. This Organization is a joke, run by buffoons, cheap at that, that have lied to the fans on more than one occasion. Case in point..... fans show up this year when the White Sox give the fans something to be excited about and Ownership awards us with the "can't spend $1 when I only have $0.50 bulls***." Or how about the "WS or Bust" talk we heard in July after the R Alomar and Everett trades. Jeez..... if it was "World Series or Bust" maybe we could have dealt for a 5th starter too????? Some people just see through the White Sox BS. SoxFest is one of them. POST THE HATE SOXFEST!!!!!

CubKilla
My point is, why deal with the hate? If things are so bad, pick another team. Why waste so much time on something you have so much disain for? Because, through it all, the White Sox are our team. It's just that many here haven't seen anything to be positive about since '59. And the majority of younger posters can only go back to '83, '93, and..... to a lesser extent..... 2000. Each season, same result. This Organization is predictable and Sox fans know what to expect when it comes to signing marque players, hiring managers, making trades, etc. We can pick through all the psychobabble and, when all is said and done, the White Sox will field a team and hire the coaches that cost the least amount of money as possible. The current Ownership doesn't work any other way. $$$$$ is the bottom line. Not Championships and definitely not the fans. Alot to be positive about there. I have been a Sox fan since I was a lil boy. I remember going to Comiskey and seeing a young Jason Bere pitch. I remember a little of 1993. I remember the Sox celebrating, that's the most vivid memory. I really can't recall a great deal of major signings. Albert Belle would be the biggest guy we brought in here. Although the last few winters have brought us a big trade (yes, the Wells, Richie, and Koch deals where big when they happen. And ofcouharce Bart.). I personally don't think things are that bad. We could have it alot worse. We have a ton of talent that just hasn't put it together. If Billy and Paul have comeback years, which I think they will, we will be tough.
