KnightsOnMintSt
I feel like this is said a lot, but big night for arms. Expecting another dominant start from Stephens.

flavum
Wonder if Collins is feeling the long season at this point. Not an excuse, but it's new for him catching most days for months at a time.

Chicago White Sox
I really worry about our organization's ability to develop hitters. Right or wrong, I still can't believe they hired a guy with as little experience as Chris Getz to run things. And until I see positive changes take place on the offensive side, I'm going to be skeptical it was a smart hire.
fathom
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 01:31 AM) Wonder if Collins is feeling the long season at this point. Not an excuse, but it's new for him catching most days for months at a time. Friend is at the game. Says Collins looks awful behind the plate. Not good, he was a fan of his earlier in the year. caulfield12
Are there any "catching whisperers/gurus" out there, like Rudy Jaramillo or Leo Mazzone for pitching/hitting....Rusty Kuntz for baserunning/fielding? What are all the retired Molina's doing?
fathom
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 02:12 AM) What does ur friend say about Collins swing? He was more concerned about defense to be honest
Heads22
Giolito continuing to turn things around helps the rebuild a ton. Also, I would like to see Eloy in AA.

Rowand44
I suppose Stephens is allowed a bad start. EDIT: Also, has the best farm system in baseball ever produced the worst lineup for a team? That Barons lineup is something. witesoxfan
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 08:12 PM) Are there any "catching whisperers/gurus" out there, like Rudy Jaramillo or Leo Mazzone for pitching/hitting....Rusty Kuntz for baserunning/fielding? What are all the retired Molina's doing? I don't know who they are, but there are a couple in the White Sox organization. Tyler Flowers and Chris Stewart come to mind immediately as guys who are/were phenomenal pitch framers, and Flowers has developed into a pretty damn good hitter too. caulfield12
OTOH, there's only so much you can do. Phegley had defensive question marks from the moment he was drafted. Flowers, however, after the AFL with the Braves, came over as a potential big-time hitter with lots of defensive question marks surrounding him. TheTruth05
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 08:30 PM) I suppose Stephens is allowed a bad start. EDIT: Also, has the best farm system in baseball ever produced the worst lineup for a team? That Barons lineup is something. Stephens wasnt great but Johansen came in and just completely s*** the bed, allowing Stephens runners to score + another 4.
chitownsportsfan
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 08:34 PM) OTOH, there's only so much you can do. Phegley had defensive question marks from the moment he was drafted. Flowers, however, after the AFL with the Braves, came over as a potential big-time hitter with lots of defensive question marks surrounding him. That they turned Flowers into a fine defensive catcher is promising. At a certain point you can only blame the coaches so much. Players play. I'm not really that high or worried about Collins. Anything he produces is a bonus. Catching is so thin at the MLB level and so few teams really have a stud 3-5 WAR catcher that a platoon surrounded by guys like Moncada, Eloy, Rutherford, Burger etc will work just fine. flavum
Dedelow a single away from a cycle in the 4th inning.
daggins
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 07:42 PM) Dedelow a single away from a cycle in the 4th inning. His carrying tool was always going to be power, but he's been very impressive, even if it is Great Falls. Gotta see how he handles Kanny. Jake
If you never looked at the statistics and only read this site you'd think Collins had a .500 OPS
fathom
Wonder if Burger still ailing. Really bad game overall for him and Kanny tonight. caulfield12
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 07:54 PM) If you never looked at the statistics and only read this site you'd think Collins had a .500 OPS It's like Braves' fans from 1990 to mid 00's... So much expectation anything out of the norm sticks out like a sore thumb. Perceptions have shifted tremendously in a matter of mere months. Red Sox fans will probably be ready to cut or trade Devers after his debut tonight. Edited July 26, 2017 by caulfield12
flavum
It's definitely a trap following prospects day to day. I just hope Collins is the catcher of the future, because having a stable, reliable catcher is going to be one of the biggest keys to the rebuild. I hope a first rounder like Collins is that guy, but if it's Skoug or Zavala that's great too. Just somebody.
