2017-2018 NFL Thread

Recommended Posts

The Bears played with fire by continually relying on their defense to stop Carolina, despite a nearly 4-1 ratio of offensive plays and time of possession in the favor of Carolina.

They got lucky. They very easily could have pissed this away by trying more not to lose than by trying to win.

I get taking the air out of the ball towards the later stages, but the first 16 minutes of the second half were completely ridiculous. Not only did they put too much on the shoulders of that defense, but they could have gotten some of their offensive players hurt by refusing to put them in any kind of a position to succeed.

I haven't been a big detractor of Fox, but today might have been the game that solidified the fact that he has to go.

Ironic is the fact that this occurred in probably his biggest win as Bears head coach.

The Bears don't have an NFL offense. If you can't see that, I am not sure what to say here.

The team without the NFL offense is 2-1 since they put a QB in there that doesn't turn the ball over multiple times per game. You don't have to say anything. I'll continue to enjoy their wins.

It's a fair point, but as other teams get more film on Trubusky, it's going to be more and more difficult for the Bears offense to do anything whatsoever. Sure, your earlier point is accurate - if they run the ball effectively and play well defensively, they'll be in most games, but I don't think their defense is dominant enough to win many.

They don't have a ton of talent on offense, especially on the outside, but I'd be pretty surprised if the Bears didn't win 7 or 8 games at this point.

Enjoy the mediocrity.

Thanks. Will do. I like seeing progress. Thankfully this isn't the NBA, in which case I would be rooting for losses.

Emery left this organization in such bad shape that any progress should be applauded. Pace and his college scouts have been GREAT- Goldman, Floyd, Jackson, Amos. His FA’s haven’t been great but Trevathan and Hicks have been very good. If he can have the same eye offensively in the upcoming draft, watch out

The Bears need wide recievers, period. The opposing defenses don’t even worry about them and still stack the box, they don’t give Trubisky much of a chance to do anything. When he does get a chance you see what he can do, which is pretty good. But the Fox method of getting any lead and salting off the clock is just terrible.

How you can look at this offense and see progress over last year is beyond me.

How you can look at this team and not see progress over last year is beyond me. The Bears have no weapons on the outside. They got hurt. It sucks, but it is what it is. They're starting a rookie QB. They've had the lead the last two weeks so there was no reason for them to go air the ball out and risk turnovers when they didn't need to.They have already equaled their wins from last year where most people had the Bears penciled in at 0-7 or 1-6.

It's a weird combination of a rookie QB, zero wide receivers, and the most conservative coach in the league. Today was rough to watch, but they got the early lead and it worked out, no reason to force anything extra on Trubisky yet. But that is not gonna work next weekend in NOLA.

They didn't need one today. Why take a chance on turning the ball over. The team did everything they needed to for the win.

No doubt but since they can't acquire one during the season, what you see is what you get.

I said before they put Trubiskey in that the offense has not WRs so the play calls won't change. The game plan today is the only chance they have to win.

Most likely not. But today it was all they needed. It was an awful offensive performance (like the double meaning) but it was all they needed.

He's got to be able to get the ball out somewhere though. I realize we hardly attempted any passes, but how many times was he sacked today? If the offense is so bad that literally 20-30% of when he does not hand the ball off, he is getting sacked, that is a problem.

There HAVE GOT TO BE SOME PLAYS they can run which don't result in him needing to simply eat the ball and take hits.

Playcalling has changed 100 percent. Glennon threw 40, 45, 22, and 33 times in his starts. I don’t even think Trubisky has thrown over 20 times yet

Yes, the defense has been much better. Good enough to win some games. That is something you can hang your hat on. The offense is going to struggle. A rookie QB with 13 starts before this year since high school, with no receivers that require a double team isn't exactly a recipe to score many points. If they can get that side of the ball fixed, they will be a fun team to watch.

I agree. It's as boring as can be, but it's a win.

I would think if Fox was fired and replaced with Ron Rivera, most would be happy. I think if Cam Newton was the Bears QB, most would be happy. Yet the Bears beat them with pretty much zero offense. 3 first downs until garbage time.

Martavis Bryant still pushing for a trade. Maybe Pace can pull it off lol

or how about Glennon to AZ for Fitzgerald haha I crack myself up

I just don't see why Pitt would. Sure he's disgruntled, but to this point he's still playing. The Steelers are 5-2 and he's a big part of offense.

Bears defense has been good enough for about a year now (I feel like end of october was turning point) that even with our offense I feel we could have a winning record save for one thing holding us back: our terrible terrible turnover ratio.

It's amazing how much turnovers help. And good special teams.

So you see no progress in the Bears defense? Offense sucks and will suck the rest of the season, but since 1979, 7 times an NFL team has completed 4 or less passes in a game. They are 6-1 in those games.
