Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) Interestingly enough Stephens and Hansen also scheduled to start tonight. I am mildly surprised neither of them are getting promoted. I don't think Stephens deserves to be promoted yet. The peripherals are good not great (K rate way down) and he only has 11 AA starts to his name. If anyone deserves to be promoted it's Jordan Guerrero, who has been awesome this year and has 40+ AA starts. Bob Sacamano
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) Who's leaving the big club? Hopefully MiGo in a waiver trade. But probably someone from the pen (Goldberg would be my guess).
thxfrthmmrs
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) I don't think Stephens deserves to be promoted yet. The peripherals are good not great (K rate way down) and he only has 11 AA starts to his name. If anyone deserves to be promoted it's Jordan Guerrero, who has been awesome this year and has 40+ AA starts. I dont disagree that Guerrero is ready for AAA, in the perfect world we cut bait with Volstad and promote both. But for Stephens, there isn't much left to do in AA. He was a 4 year starter at Rice (lost some time due to injury) and was viewed as a quick riser because he was more polished than raw. He's not someone you have to pitch 150 innings at a level before promoting him. Speaking of peripherals he may never have great peripherals in the upper minors because he's a BOR type pitcher, not going to miss a ton of bats. chitownsportsfan
A waiver deal with the Mariners would make sense. The Mariners rotation currently is rocking an xFIP over 5, yikes. They just lost their only good starter, Paxton, for 3-4 weeks with a pectoral strain. Would Migo clear waivers? Problem is I don't think he would. possibly would be he's basically replacement level. Can't hurt to try and see if they can grab another lotto ticket for one of them.

He doesn't need to clear I think he only needs to make it to Seattle to claim him. Send Seattle all three of Shields, Holland and Gonzo for a couple of lower level guys or AAA fillers to get through the season.

MiGo doesn't need to clear waivers for a deal to happen. 8 AL Teams would have to pass on him before the Mariners could win a claim on him. The teams are: Tigers (unlikely), Blue Jays (unlikely), Rangers (unlikely), O's (probably unlikely), Royals (maybe), Angels (probably not), and then Twins. Of course, I think it's possible the Royals could put a claim on him with Cahill now on the dl. Any team hopefully willing to give up a lotto ticket for him is fine with me. You're probably right about him not clearing waivers. Edited August 11, 2017 by soxfan2014

Balta1701
Link In his second career White Sox start, right-hander Reynaldo Lopez left the game with soreness in his right side and will be re-evaluated Friday. Sox manager Rick Renteria and trainer Herm Schneider went out to speak with Lopez with one out and two on base in the fifth. After a conversation with Lopez, they started back toward the dugout, then turned around and pulled Lopez, who pulled his cap off and walked off with Schneider with a straight face. For those who missed it, this description misses some of the details. Herm and Renteria went out to speak to Lopez, Lopez said he was fine, Abreu stayed on the mound with Lopez after Herm and Renteria left, Abreu asked Lopez what was really going on, Lopez told Abreu something was bothering him, and Abreu called Herm and Renteria back to the mound and said pull him. Rowand44
QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) I don't think it's a matter of trust. He's a young pitcher that doesn't want to come out of the game, especially in a close game with guys on. Good on Abreu for playing veteran and doing the right thing. Exactly. You're looking way too much into this, Balta.

Kalapse
Jose Abreu is pretty damn awesome. Him as the DH on the next contending team just makes way too much sense, it's impossible not to respect him.

iamshack
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 03:38 AM) Jose Abreu is pretty damn awesome. Him as the DH on the next contending team just makes way too much sense, it's impossible not to respect him. I went to the game in LA on Wednesday night. It was VERY clear that Jose is the on-field leader of these kids. He was keeping them all loose, particularly Anderson and Moncada. He's also the ambassador with the fans. He signed every autograph, even right up when the game was about to begin. He threw balls into the crowd for kids, Sox and Dodgers fans alike (even this big kid who stood up in a Sox jersey in a sea of blue). He also happens to have played in every game this season, I believe. This s*** season where he's a 30 year old veteran in the middle of a contract and his team is 30 games under .500. Every single game. I couldn't have come away more impressed with him. He is the perfect guy to help teach these kids how to be professionals. Him as the DH on the next contending team just makes way too much sense, it's impossible not to respect him. Will his production be there at that age though? I'm not too sure about that. The way it's going, Nicky D will be a superior hitter at that point imo. Maybe he'll be a coach by then. I think Jose will be a lifetime sox though. He will have a job with the organization whenever he wants. Kudos to him for being a grade A human being
