chitownsportsfan
Giolito looks like a guy that is going to pitch his best "effectively wild".
soxfan49
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 08:06 PM) Anderson is having a night to forget Another night to forget, to be exact
fathom
QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 02:15 AM) Like most pitchers, it's going to be heavily dependent on Giolito keeping his mechanics in check. If he can do that consistently, I think the Sox got a good one. If not..... Never really realized how much there is to his delivery.
chitownsportsfan
Wow, beautiful fastball. Almost wonder if that was planned to shake off 4 times then throw the heater. Nice.
beautox
Hell of a fastball by Gio, wow.
Jose Abreu
of his 67 pitches, 53 are fastballs, 7 changes, 7 curves
Chicago White Sox
Very solid start for Giolito so far: 4 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 HR, 3 K, 0 BB, 41/68 strikes
bmags
A good amount of swing and misses too

Being aggressive inside to hitters, especially LH is the key
fathom
Ugh, real bad pitch selection on 0-2. Needs to start mixing in some curves
beautox
that was s*** pitch selection, should've been a high fastball out of the zone on 0-2 after getting the second strike down broadway.
Jack Parkman
I think we have a keeper with Giolito, but if he's throwing 92-93 vs 95-96 he's a #3 and not a potential ace. Edited August 23, 2017 by Jack Parkman
fathom
Missing right down the plate on nearly every fastball now. Gonna get ugly if he can't use offspeed stuff
fathom
QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 02:30 AM) This sort of felt like a spring training start to be honest, focusing on one thing (the fastball) and not really worrying about secondary stuff. Totally agree

ScootsMcGoots
Very nice there. He's had a solid outing. The thing I like the most about it so far...no walks.
Jack Parkman
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 08:32 PM) I think we all would be thrilled if he can be a 3. Ya, agreed. We don't need him to be an ace, because we have Kopech and Hansen who look to be TOR guys. I can't believe how much he's lost off the fastball though since his Nats days. They must have really screwed him up mechanically. Perfect case of if it isn't broken, don't fix it.
bmags
Really encouraging to me. Showed that even if he can't locate his Curve, his fastball is good enough to be effective. When his curve is on?

Jack Parkman
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) He was throwing 95-96 in first 2 innings Yeah, but if he can't hold it deep into games it really doesn't matter. If he can get there again and hold it for his entire start then he instantly becomes the top guy after Kopech, and you could argue who could be better. Right now there is no discussion. If he can get back there with the fastball and throw strikes with his curve and change he's going to make Major League hitters look like schmucks. Secondary pitches move so much and fool hitters when he can establish them for strikes. I've been super impressed with his changeup. It is disgusting.
