Dick Allen
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) Do we know how that happened? Was he extremely lucky to start the year or was there an injury or velocity drop? He lost all his control, and became meat.
OmarComing25
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) It was mainly luck. His peripherals were always garbage. 4.47 FIP and 4.95 xFIP through the first two months, he was obviously pitching over his head but those are more mediocre than garbage and would be fine out of your 5th starter. After June hit his walk rate doubled and then he just started getting pounded. Like DA said, he lost any semblance of control.

ChiSox59
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 02:34 PM) About time...wish they'd do the same to Shields. Shields has been relatively decent his last 6 starts since he dropped his arm angle. Definitely not great, but decent. Probably worth keeping him around in hopes someone will take him off our hands next summer. Super unlikely, but oh well.

Yeah, as long as you are paying him, you'll always need someone to eat innings, and if you aren't going to win, his mediocrity is fine as long as it doesn't get too out of hand. Like you wrote, since he changed arm angles, he has been a bit better. I actually saw a 94 on the board yesterday. The HR will still kill him. Like you wrote, since he changed arm angles, he has been a bit better. I actually saw a 94 on the board yesterday. The HR will still kill him. I saw an interesting idea on twitter a couple weeks ago about the Sox making him the closer next year. Now that may be a bit aggressive, but I do wonder if he could be decent reliever. Continue to drop that arm angle and perhaps he could add a few ticks on the radar and recreate himself as a pensman to finish off his career. I would imagine he would be open to the idea as he has to know his days in a major league rotation are numbered. Problem is, after Rodon, Giolito and Lopez...they run out of options. I suppose they could put Danish out there to start the season (to me he is clearly a reliever and should be put in the MLB pen next season) along with a scrap heap FA. If they really plan on pushing Kopech up early in the year, maybe that makes sense. But I just feel like Shields has a place in the rotation to start the season. kitekrazy
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 12:59 PM) I'll give Holland credit for taking the ball and not making excuses. Wish him well. He has like $6M credited to his account, can't see any player that bad making excuses.
southsider2k5
What a class act! https://www.instagram.com/p/BYtEJ-4gHVp/ dutchoven45Dear @whitesox and #whitesoxnation thank you all for everything you did for me and always cheering for me through the good times and getting on me in the bad times. Wish there would of been more good than bad but at the end of the day I was healthy and that is huge to me. I can't thank the fans of chicago enough for welcoming me and letting me be apart of this program. I understand that this release was going to happen. I was not performing well and that's my own fault but the main thing is I made sure I showed up day in and day out to give the chicago family everything I possibly could. I feel terrible for not being able to perform the way I'm capable but appreciate the opportunity that the white sox provided for me. The staff from coaches to front office were class act and extremely grateful for everything you all did for me and welcoming me the way you did. You kept me injury free and made me stronger and better. There is a bright future of stars coming up and is going to be fun to watch. That club house is going to be missed and grateful for all of my teammates in chicago. A lot of unbelievable talent in that club house and it's going to be one hell of a team within the next year. To all my teammates thank you so much for pushing me everyday and having my back. Thank you for making this season fun. I will continue to watch and see the great plays and performances from my teammates because there is a lot of talent and the skipper will continue to push them everyday. Thank you chicago white sox for this greats opportunity and helping me stay healthy. Now it's time to see where god takes me and take on my next challenge. Again thank you to all my teammates, staff and the front office for letting me be apart of the @whitesox organization. God bless

Heads22
In terms of Shields, his most meaningful contributions might be if he really does help Lucas transition into a decent big leaguer.
BlackSox13
Not at all surprised by Holland's response. Has been a great guy since day one and wish him the best. Who knows, we might reunite again later if/when he becomes a reliever.

Swingandalongonetoleft
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 05:49 AM) Not at all surprised by Holland's response. Has been a great guy since day one... This is one reason I hated seeing him get rocked so thoroughly every time he got the ball. ...but, at least he's still currently eligible for a ring as a nice parting gift.
