InTheDriversSeat
I recently learned that Ralph Faucher passed away on September 22, 2017 at age 91. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Ralph called White Sox games on radio alongside Harry Caray for the 1971 and 1972 seasons, when he was sportscaster and sales manager at WTAQ. This was the time period when the Sox did not have a big AM station in Chicago to carry games. Instead, Mr. Faucher worked together with the White Sox to create a network of radio stations around Chicago to carry the games. The stations were: FM 105.1 WEAW-FM Evanston / Chicago (transmitting in mono from John Hancock Center) AM 1330 WEAW Evanston (daytime games, weekends only) AM 1300 WTAQ LaGrange FM 103.9 WFVF Dundee FM 106.3 WLNR Lansing FM 96.7 WJOL-FM Joliet Radio affiliates outside the Chicago area were located at: South Bend, Pekin (Peoria), Bloomington IL, Springfield IL, Urbana, and Granite City, IL (St. Louis) Later on, Mr. Faucher became the owner of WTAQ and WFVF. I can not find an obituary online for Mr. Faucher. However, I heard that he retired to Eagle River, Wisconsin, where he worked part time at radio stations AM 950 WERL and FM 94.5 WRJO. For some great, historical pictures of Ralph Faucher together with Harry Caray, Roland Hemond, and Chuck Tanner, go to this link.
