2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports

Verlander was pitching well when the Astros acquired him, so maybe they were lucky about that, but there is always luck involved when winning the WS. Think of the White Sox in 2005. What if a ball doesn't roll through Tony Graffinino's legs? What if El Duque doesn't get out of a bases loaded nobody out jam? The odds were overwhelming neither of those things would happen, and if they didn't, the wrong color Sox probably win that series. The Cubs were lucky the Astros liked Appel. The Royals got lucky vs. Houston when they won the WS, and had an improbable comeback vs. Oakland in the WC round the year before, which ultimately got them to the WS and a lot more money to spend. The list goes on and on. You have to be good, and you have to be lucky.

What about being the Braves. Make the playoffs 15 years in a row and win it all once. That's crazy, especially with what they could put on the mound.

That's a lot less fun than it sounds. I'd rather have a 7-10 year run with multiple championships, preferably 3+ of them.

Yes I would easily take this. It was so much for fun being a fan in the 2000s when the team was at least competitive. They did win the on championship, but just give me 6 months of good, competitive baseball season.

They could then still use a Kyle Tucker or the best pitching prospect in baseball to get an upgrade. ZIPS has them with 52 WAR. They have some cushion.

For all of the verlander aww man what if they didn't get him or if he was bad, they could also have gotten Darvish and been worse, and Verlander has talked about how all of the information they provided him made him better.

If you read only soxtalk you'd think the astros fell ass backwards into a world series title.

Or like SoxTalk demanded they could have traded for Q, who got rocked in an elimination game, and not won the World Series either.

Probably inregards to a FA. Darvish maybe?

Yup, that was his update tonight. The meeting was to go over Darvish strategy. The idea is they know what the Rays want for Archer, but want to probably wait on what Darvish does before pulling the trigger. Darvish expected to make his decision Monday, and then we may see a flurry of trades and signings that have been held up by him.

He doesn't expect them to get Darvish, but does think they get Archer for 4 pieces

That's bold to do both

No, he DOESN'T think they get Darvish. He put Darvish at 60/40 to the Cubs. Said they likely get Archer, and then might still have a trade lined up w/ the Indians or could sign Arrieta/Cobb. They want 2 SP.

Ken Rosenthal‏Verified account @Ken_Rosenthal 2m2 minutes ago Springer turned down seven-year, $23M offer from #Astros before playing a major-league game. That deal would have run through his first year of free agency. New two-year, $24M contract will increase career earnings to nearly $29M, with year of arb remaining before free agency.

Or the Pirates being the equivalent of the Royals on NL side but having nothing but three wild card games and forced trades of Cole and beloved McCutcheon to show for it.

Cubs and Cardinals (and now Brewers) were much stronger competition than KC and now the Indians/Twins face.

Always liked this fit. He has to be better than anything they've had at 3B the last few years.

I always liked Frazier. Now that he has added some walks, if he hits .240, he's a really good baseball player. He's already a pretty good player, and a bargain at that rate.
