Sleepy Harold
Chicago White Sox @whitesox 2m The #WhiteSox have outrighted C Rob Brantly, RHPs Brad Goldberg and Chris Volstad, LHP David Holmberg and OF Rymer Liriano to Charlotte. Chicago White Sox @whitesox 2m Replying to @whitesox Goldberg will remain in the organization as a non-roster player, while Brantly, Holmberg, Liriano and Volstad will become MiLB free agents. Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 1m White Sox 40-man roster decreases to 33.
Dick Allen
I guess they could bring a couple of those guys back, but the question would be, why? Maybe Brantly if he wants to spend next summer in Charlotte.

bmags
I'd bring back all of him as MILB free agents if they go unsigned.
Al Lopez's Ghost
They've improved the depth of the system so much this year, I'm sure they had rule 5 considerations.
Sleepy Harold
James Fegan @JRFegan Replying to @JRFegan Sox need to protect Eloy Jimenez, Casey Gillaspie, Ryan Cordell from Rule 5 eligibility, case to be made for Jake Peter, Brian Clark, Jordan Guerrero...Micker Adolfo, Tito Polo. I think we're going to leave a fair number of these unprotected. Edited October 4, 2017 by GenericUserName
Bob Sacamano
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) I don't feel a need to protect Micker. Agreed. He's far so he wouldn't be worth it to keep on an MLB roster all year.

GenericUserName
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) These 2 for sure. Yeah, definitely, I just went through and looked at guys in our top 30 and guys in AAA because those seem like the most likely players to poach and they fit the criteria. ChiSox59
A little surprised about Liriano and Goldberg. The rest are not surprises. Does Goldberg need to pass through waivers to stay in the organization? I saw the post that says he remains in the organization as a non-roster player. How does that work - what is the difference between him, and say, Liriano. First time he's been outrighted perhaps?
ChiSox59
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) No shocks there. The Sox still have a couple of more spots they can open even as Pelfrey will be a FA, and a couple of other players who could go if needed out of the pen. Right. You got Pelfry, and then you have to imagine Beck, Farquhar and Alburquerque are all easy cuts. Then you still have Jacob May and Alen Hanson who likely aren't part of the future. That bring 40 man down to 27 before adding the likes of Eloy, Gillaspie, Peter, Clark, Guerrero, Polo, Basabe, and Walsh. Plenty of space to play with. I'm pretty sure we do because the Cubs signed him in 2013 and rule 5 goes by how many you were signed for, so this is his 5th rule 5 draft making him eligible. Basically for this rule 5 its college guys from the 2014 draft and high school / international guys from 2013.

Soto will just become a free agent. So on my count of the 40 man including only guys who we control for next year, even if they are on the DL, I have 34 guys. Putnam and Tilson are on it, Soto is not.
