They have gone to 3 straight LCS, have 1 WS and the window is still wide open.

They have a reason to be optimistic.

Definitely.

I hated to see that happen to Q tonight, I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't over the Cubs at this point. I was legit happy for a lot of my friends last year when they won it but Fornelli said it pretty well on twitter tonight, they're a juggernaut now and they can just go away.

They're still a force but changes have to be made. They won't win much with a rotation of Quintana/Hendricks/Lester/Montgomery/Tseng. I don't know that they'll be able to replace Arrieta/revamp the bullpen just by trading Schwarber, either, given his lack of trade value. They may need to trade someone like Happ or Russell.

Another decision why I think they will win is you're most certainly going to see Hernandez and Forsythe tonight and those guys are better offensively against LHP versus Utley and Granderson against RHP. Forsythe has AL experience and has seen Q before more than most of the Dodgers.

Dude. You're a gangsta!

Best? The Ops team that just ran through cases of champagne at Wrigley begs to differ

Losing Fowler and then (believe it or not) having Schwarber in some of their lineups really hurt. They had an all time great defensive season last year. Those two changes are a huge difference.

I've heard multiple media types (I know Bruce Levine was one) suggest that they might need to let Schwarber go for someone like Archer. I really hope nobody bails the Cubs out and gives up a front line starter for him. I think Schwarber would be a really nice AL player, but he's not worth a #1 or #2 starter at this point.

If I'm the GM of a team, I'd insist on winning any trade with the Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, etc. - any of the big money teams that can outspend 80% of the other teams. The Sox did a pretty good job of this with their trades this year.

I have to say, I just don't get some Sox fans' impulse to defend Jose Quintana's honor endlessly -- on these boards, to their Cub fan friends, etc. I don't begrudge anyone their attachment to certain players, but it's just not how I look at the sports world, so I find it fascinating. I root for teams, not players. Maybe I'd make an exception for a true White Sox legend who plays a short stint for another team at the end of his career (ala Frank Thomas), but when a player's not on the Sox anymore, they're gone to me. Especially when they go to a team I don't like.

Q plays for the Cubs now. I can't stand the Cubs. I hope the world looks back on the trade as an absolute fleecing by Hahn.

Admit it. You cheer for the laundry.

IIRC, Archer is a FA, so unless they're trading Schwarber there for his rights or something, I don't think they have to get rid of Schwarber to obtain Archer.

I feel the same way.

Please post the comments in this thread if you can. I stopped listening to the score when the Sox left.

Cubs fans were very salty on the score this morning. Between the texts and the calls, they either want the team blown up or trade away players. Bryant is a bum and so and so needs to go now. They even were bashing the front office.

Being able to print your own money will help any Front Office.

If I’m starting a team, I’m asking Theo to build it.

It's not like Theo is working on some razor thin budget, he's thrown some money around too.

I'd probably take Theo #1 too, but I'm just impressed with the full roster the Dodgers built. For all the money on their books, their lineup last night was full of guys who don't make much money at all.

I mean I don't think any org can compare with the scouting and player dev behemoth the dodgers have put together.

You have to admire the patience on the part of the Dodgers though and Friedman. They knew they've had good enough teams to get in the playoffs. They didn't blow their talent to get proven playoff studs, they just kept believing in their scouting and depth.

But now they've made it to the world series, and have an endless farm system there to supplement or trade with.

Some of these guys are going to come back to earth. But the "have 10 starting pitchers on your roster and rotate the 5 hottest at any given time" seems like it might be a game changer.

He was a professional and leader for our team, never complaining while the ace was cutting up jerseys.

Some thoughts:

- I'm happy Granderson ended up striking out after the foul ball debacle

- Culberson probably played better than Seager would have

- Cubs fans should be pissed about Bryant's statements about being drained

- Cubs have a much better shot at getting Otani than most think

- I love Q but that was awesome last night. Way to continue to be a Sox legend

As does Houston, Cleveland, Boston and the Yankees. The cubs are right there with them.

The cubs were gifted Rizzo in a collusion deal, Bryant is there because of Houston's misstep (him in that lineup would be disgusting), Baez and Contrearas were Hendry finds.

Arrieta, Russell and Hendricks were nice additions as will Happ.

I think Schwarber is a detriment to that team. They made the world series without him.

Going to be interesting off season for them.

Quintana needs to be able to go deeper into games on a consistent basis.

You have to be lucky. Theo finished in second place for Anibel Sanchez and James Shields. They would still be looking for a championship had he been successful with those clowns. Sanchez was decent until the Cubs got good enough to contend, he has been awful since. Shields has been Shields.

It's the combo of Culberson and Granderson though as Taylor went back and forth between outfield and infield when with Seager, both aren't starting.
