Dunt
@WhiteSox add intriguing LH bat in 1B/OF Daniel Palka, claimed on waivers from @Twins. 34 HRs in AA/AAA in '16; broken finger wrecked '17.
Dunt
James Fegan 2h Daniel Palka is a 26yo lefty 1B/DH with plus raw power. Crushed AA as a 24yo. .274/.329/.431 in AAA last year but did reduce K rate
BlackSox13
Looks like Palka can hit left handed pitchers. Davidson might have some competition for DH in ST.

CWSpalehoseCWS
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 09:04 PM) Guess they’ve seen enough of Gillaspie I was thinking Danny Hayes.
GenericUserName
He is #22 on the Twins top 30 for MLBPipeline and #11 for the Twins on Fangraphs, though that one was from almost a year ago, so he'd probably be ranked lower just due to additions since then. 45 overall grade on MLBPipeline and a 40 FV on Fangraphs. zisk
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 09:14 PM) I was thinking Danny Hayes. Agreed. Looks like a good pick up.
LittleHurt05
Dan Pasqua?
GreenSox
He looks like a decent pick up. But it’s just that the Sox seem to have several guys at the same level playing that same position. Now if they’re moving Abreu and/or Avi, then there may be a need for more intense competition.
ChiSoxJon
I actually really like this pickup, I used to watch Palka and Georgia Tech team play and he always stood out (along with Brandon Thomas, Zane Evans, Jake Davies, Buck Farmer) Seems to just be a flier, I wouldn't look much into it regarding the safety of Hayes, etc. Hopefully he returns to form in AAA this year and pans out I love the Sox taking fliers on guys like Gillaspie, Delmonico, Palka, etc.
Bob Sacamano
Could easily be one of those players that bounces from team to team in the off-season in hopes that the claiming team can pass him through waivers.
southsider2k5
Betweeen Gillaspie and now this kid, I think we can kiss Abreu good bye.
Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) Betweeen Gillaspie and now this kid, I think we can kiss Abreu good bye. I think you’re really reaching here. We have 600+ DHs at-bats to give out and Gillaspie still needs to prove he’s a major league caliber talent. This is simply a depth/competition move IMO. southsider2k5
The team looks like it is building depth for his move, after pretty much saying that they didn't consider him a part of the core going forward. For me 2+2 =4.

daggins
I'm not sure they explicitly said "he's not in our plans" but I have to think that if an extension can't be worked out this offseason, they will look to move on from Abreu. He and Avi don't fit the window at this point - that could change, obv. Palka could also be Avi insurance.
NorthSideSox72
FutureSox report on Palka, including videos, reports from multiple analysts. Pretty much the full picture in there.
BlackSox13
Reminds da me a bit of a LH Matt Davidson, not that it's a bad thing. Plenty of spots to audition for so welcome to the White Sox, Palka.

Agree teams like to duplicate skills sets in the minor leagues In case one of them doesn’t pan out. Cease and Kopech are an example of this. If both players work out they’ll find a spot or use them in a trade. If one falls apart they have someone else to possibly fill the role.
