Jeff Passan is giving up his vote because of the Joe Morgan letter.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.yahoo.com/...-144738128.html

Joe Morgan is probably one of the 10 greatest players in my lifetime . I heard Harry Caray slam him and say that Ryne Sandberg was a better player.

Joe Morgan may be a jerk in some respects, but this is not one of them. He was about the size of the average 8th grader but he did it without the juice.

Sammy Sosa would have been just a good player without it. I know just how Joe Morgan feels. I wonder how Barry Bonds would be regarded if he would

have fought the urge. He might have gone down in history as one of the best 2-3 players ever instead of a jerk with a huge noggin.

I hate to change the subject, but how do you think Joe Morgan felt when a really good player like Pete Rose got the MVP while playing left field

When he was playing a gold glove 2nd base and doubling him up in WAR?. That's why Donald Trump types win elections sometimes.

52 ballots public

Thome - 98.1

C Jones - 96.2

Guerrero - 92.5

Martinez- 83.0

Hoffman - 81.1

Clemens - 75.5

--------------

Bonds - 73.6

Mussina - 73.6

Schilling - 69.8

Everyone from Clemens down is out. The last of the ballots are always the ones who leave off a ton of players.

Looks like Johan Santana just got his first vote out of 96. With a week left to get the ballots in, I'm sure we'll see a lot of strategic voting, which to me, is a major flaw in the whole process.

Pleasantly surprised to see Thome getting near-universal support. I imagine he'll wind up in the low 80s range like Frank.

Weirded out that someone didn't vote for Chipper. Character clause?

There are still a few grumpy old men left who refuse to vote anyone in on their first ballot, even Junior was left off 3 ballots.

As they start cleaning out the voter roll, we should have a unanimous guy sometime in the near future.

There's something wrong with Hoffman getting in so easily while Billy Wagner doesn't stand a chance.

I strongly believe it'll be Jeter when he's eligible.

Very possible, but his Marlins ownership may ruin that chance quickly

Very true. The dude literally had the media, fans, etc by the balls at one point. Thought he would've been the first because of that (even if there were/are more deserving players) plus he was a Yankee. This ownership ordeal might just cost him that though. Still a first ballot through and through though.

There's also something wrong with him getting in super quickly while it's taking a long time for Schilling and Mussina who were substantially better pitchers and way more deserving. With that said I hope Hoffman gets in this year just so his votes can go to guys who are way more deserving than he is since he will get in eventually anyways.

The Winter Meetings begin a week from now with the announcement of the Modern Baseball Era voting results.

Quite a few of these guys I'd have no problem getting in, but I'm partial to Dale Murphy and Alan Trammell.

I think murphy was a great player at his peak, but I'm not sure he was productive

Long enough to get in. kind of reminds me of dick allen's career. elite numbers but 2-3

years short of some other guys.
