We don't know the whole story here. That being said, the timing of this makes it a PR disaster... worse than when John Paxson fired Scott Skiles on Christmas Eve. It's not even about smarts - it is the total lack of experience on the business side. And Jeter kinda refused to surround himself with close advisors who would know, just making it worse. I highly doubt Jeter even knew. He just hasn't set up a management structure capable of giving him the right info, because he doesn't even know what that is yet.
