Rule 5 draft preview

The interesting thing is that as of yesterday, both the Tigers and the Phillies have full 40 man rosters in front of us. That doesn't stop them from trading picks, but it could move us up to the #2 if they don't make a move very soon.

I really want Nestor Cortes with our first selection and then pick Jordan Guerrero with our second and send him back to the minors.

I'm totally down for nabbing Cortes and giving him a shot in the bullpen. I'd like to be able to keep Guerrero somehow as well.

You really think this guy has any upside? Middling prospect I thought. I guess he could become a lefty specialist. I was looking at Nick Burdi, despite the injury. Ditto on Guerrero!!!

Whats the point though? Could have just put him on the 40 man 30 days ago and DFA'd Alen Hanson. Clearly the Sox don't think much of him as a lefty reliever.

To keep him as a LHSP in AA? Who would the White Sox have to send him back to?

I guess...but I see virtually no chance he makes it though the entire league without getting picked, and I don't see the Sox taking him with their 1st pick.

Agree I don't think they pick Guerrero either. He was promising prior to the last couple years, I guess the Sox didn't see enough in AA to think he can become an effective ML pitcher, even in relief role, although he did progress somewhat between 2016 and 2017. All things equal I'd like to keep him and see...likely won't amount to anything, but I wouldn't just give him away either. Perhaps Hahn has eyes on someone else (Burdi??? lets go). Will see....

I think the Sox select a Pitcher, but I have to say the Franmil Reyes might be the most interesting based on what the Sox have and don't have in their system. Travis Demerette is another.

Rumors that Travis Demeritte might go #1 to Detroit

Sox should look at Demeritte as he can potentially play several positions including 3B, SS and 2B. The power is there if he can make offensive adjustments.

He's rumored to be going ahead of them. They also don't really have roster space for him.
