Ichiro wants a new deal or else...

For 6 million the Sox could afford him. Ichiro probably feels more comfortable over in Seattle and would try anything to stay there. b**** at me for stereotyping, but Asian players have alot of devotion to their teams.

If anyone is thinking of some sort of ichiro/Maggs trade then I say :finger to that. Only relevant categories that Ichiro is better then Maggs is in total hits (212 to 192) and Stolen bases (34 to 9). Stat that surprised me the most is how Maggs has a higher OBP over Suzuki. (.380 to .352)

Maybe the only way I would approve a Ichiro for Magglio trade if they threw Hasegawa into it.

If the deal was Ichiro at $6 million and Maggs at $14 million, and that meant that we could resign most of our FA's, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I'm with you there. A player like Ichiro is exactly what this team needs. We already have a team chock-full of players that can hit the ball over the fence. Ichiro and..... say R Alomar...... near the top of the order..... :headbang

Check AVG with RISP... Ichiro usually is at the top of baseball. Maggs was seriosly lacking in that category this year.

I think the M's are part-owned by Nintendo. Is that right?

Nintendo is struggling this year with both the PS/2 & XBOX game sales.

That's why the game cube has been slashed to $99.00.

When things get ugly in the real-world purse strings get tight in MLB's fantasy world.

When you mention Maggs for Ichiro it makes little sense for the M's on the surface but if you pkg a deal then it makes sense.

Here's what you got with respect to the M's:

Martinez 4MIL 7th ranked in AL

Ichiro 4.7MIL 42nd ranked in AL

Olerud 7.7MIL 46th ranked in AL

Olerud 9MIL 2002 10th ranked in AL

Here's what you got with respect to the SOX:

Thomas 6MIL 6th ranked in AL

Ordonez 14.5MIL 11th ranked in AL

Konerko 7.5MIL 2002 16th ranked in AL

Obviously what stands out the most is Maggs.

Koney has NEVER performed as well as Olerud.

Assuming he's signed for 2004 w the M's < 8MIL it might make sense to do

a Ichiro+Olerud for Maggs+Koney deal. 22mil for 14mil swap for the M's but now they get the power player they've needed all these years.

I doubt the M's do it though because Maggs has a 450 OPS in Safeco.

Yeah I don't think Seattle's gonna be able to afford Kaz Matsui unless they get rid of a big name ova there, e.g Ichiro, Mike Cameron, Freddy Garcia

It also must be pretty hard on da fans ova there winning 92 games 2 years in a row (I think?) and not making da playoffs. So I wouldn't count us out of the race for Kaz just yet. But I'd do Maggs for Ichiro in a second. I think Maggs still underacheived a little this year, he wasn't as clutch as in recent years. But he still had a great year.

Cameron is not going to resign in Seattle. He is going to be one of those guys that takes a huge paycut. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes from $8 mil to $2 mil or less.

Yeah playin in Safeco has really decreased his batting numbers ova there. Still he's a guy who can hit bout .250 and .260 with 30 homers (in a hitters park) and a plus arm in da outfield plus great speed. Some team will overpay $4 to $5 mil for him, maybe Pittsburgh or even Cleveland.

After seeing what players got paid last year. $2 mil tops. Archive this post.

Whatever he goes to in salary is moot. Hopefully a NL team picks him up because he's a f***ing SoxKilla

Why not the SOX? If he can be had for 2MIL in 2K4 it's a good fit for the SOX.

Cameron seems tailor made for the Cell (2214 OPS).

I like his numbers against groundball/finesse pitchers the most. And a 900+ OPS w RISP is pretty clutch. His 17SB would make a nice addition as well.

And he was. A minor sophomore slump and they screw him over like so many in the past. Cam hates, hates, HATES the Sox and will never ever play here unless JR is no longer the owner. Ahhh.. the list grows longer and longer.

Also factor into the equation that Ichiro has probably the strongest arm for any OFer in the AL right now(if Vlad signs with an AL team, that will probably change), but unlike Vlad, Ichiro is accurate with his throws and he is smart with his throws. He plays excellent defense, can play all 3 OF spots(he didn't play CF in Seattle because Cameron is a better defensive CFer then Ichiro), he is a threat to steal EVERY time he gets on 1B, and he can flat out make things happen. And that's only where he would help us on the baseball side of the picture. As far as everything else is concerned, he costs way less(we could trade them Lee...still come out about even....trade them Maggs, we can take on $3 mill of Maggs's salary and we still come out better financially), we get a player we can actually market, and the White Sox also become a much more marketable team all around. You would see an increase in attendance from the Asian-American community of Chicago(as well as the surrounding areas), and with that increase in everything, the White Sox will rake in much, much more money then they do now.

You may call me crazy for this...but with our new-found depth at the OF spot in our minor league system and the fact that so many decent OFers can be had cheaply(Sanders, Cruz Jr, Lofton, etc), we could just fill in if need be, I would also include Jeremy Reed into the trade. I know he is a flat out stud, and it could potentially hurt us in the long run...but right now, I don't give a rat's ass about the long run. We just got f***ing embarrassed this year by having to play down to the very end with a team that has considerably less talent then the Sox do just to beat them out for 2nd place. IMO, that's unbelieveable....there is no reason this team shouldn't still be playing, let alone being eliminated when we were and how it was done(and I'm not talking about mathematically eliminated....we were done after getting swept by Minnesota....that is pathetic).

So, if the Mariners want, they can have Jeremy Reed and Magglio Ordonez if they want to, so long as we get Ichiro in return.

I'm not sure if it's so cut & dry like that. If Cameron is really expected to take a cut down to 2MIL thru FA then he might consider the SOX as a stepping stone to boost him numbers for a MUCH bigger pay day in 2K5.

Not to mention it's not about JR as much as it's about KW.

If I'm not mistaken KW & Cam got along when KW was in scouting.

KW was not a part of the Koney for Cam trade & I think he was against it.

When Cameron was traded, the change of scenery just might be what propelled him on to becoming the quality ballplayer he is today. If he would have come back for a third year in Chicago he might not have made it. There was a lot of pressure on him because the Sox (and Hawk) had hyped him for years.

It's ironic that he could hate the Sox for doing the very thing that allowed him to reach his potential.

It's all theory though. No way to prove or back up my supposition.

I'm just repeating what I read, perhaps at another board, but the White Sox put Cameron through hell when his wife was pregnant, just before he was traded to Cincinnati. If the story is true, the bad guy probably was Schueler, could've been Williams, but whoever it was, it's probably enough to keep Cameron away. I think it's a moot point, because I don't think Cameron will sign for anything close to 2 million - I think he'll get a lot more than that.

Also the notion that we would trade Reed away is unlikely to me. Cheap, promising talent -- the Sox will hold on to that.
