hi8is
For those of you who like me, didn't have a clue about this kid... have at it: Maiker Feliz Position: 3B Born: 08/17/97 Ht: 6'0" Wt: 195 B-T: R-R Acquired: Signed for $450,000 in 2013 from the Dominican Republic. Scouting report One of the higher profile international signings the club has made in the past few years ($450,000 in 2013), Feliz tore up the DSL as a 17-year-old. DSL stats usually are taken with a grain of salt, but even then a .349/.455/.446 line with a substantial walk rate and decent contact rate are impressive at that age. It is even more impressive when you remember that Feliz was more well known for his defense than his hitting when he signed. Feliz struggled when he was promoted to the AZL White Sox at the end of the 2015 season during their league championship run (10 K in 9 G, .161 AVG), though that was only 9 games. Feliz repeated AZL for his age 18 season, and the core numbers weren't great (he hit .214) but he did still continue to draw walks and make OK contact. He played 3B exclusively. Clearly, patience will be key for the 18-year-old as he is in his first full season stateside. According to Baseball America, scouts see him as a line drive hitter “with average bat speed and a chance to be an above average defender”. Feliz has average foot speed as well. Any power that Feliz has will have to come along as he fills out his frame. Defense will be where Feliz hangs his hat while his hitting develops, as scouts claim that Feliz has good hands and strong arm for the hot corner. In-person looks in his 2nd AZL trip saw a hitter raw in plan and getting caught between at the plate, but that's not unexpected at his age. Major League Outlook: Defense-oriented third baseman ETA: 2020 Taken from: http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/maiker-feliz/ Edited December 30, 2017 by hi8is
