Love the rebuild, despise this attitude

I can’t link the article from the tribune for some reason, if someone can it would be appreciated.

I’m excited for the rebuild, but there is an article there where Yoan Moncada is quoted as saying that he’s excited knowing that the second base job is his.

Maybe he was taken the wrong way, but this bothers me. He’s a talented, exciting young prospect, but it is not like he is a perennial all star and mvp candidate at this point in his career. I hope he does that in his career, but at this point he should have to earn it.

Yes, he is the most likely winner there, but if he has a horrible spring, and someone else, say Yolmer Sanchez for example, tears the cover off the ball along with his sparkling defense this spring, Moncada should not just be handed the job. I just don’t like the attitude.

I'm guessing you are referring to this article.

Here is his quotes

"Last year when the team called me (up), I thought they just were going to give me a few chances to play second base,” Moncada said through a team interpreter. “But they gave me the opportunity to play every day and it was a really good experience for me.

“This year, knowing that I’m going to be at second base every day, I’m going to feel more comfortable.”

I mean the job is his. Your not going to let him compete with other players for it when he's your future second baseman. You want him to play everyday to see what he is capable of. Who's he he going to compete with anyway for everyday. Sanchez is a utility player and probably going to see some time at 3rd. Saladino is a utility player and needs to get healthy. Leury is a utility player but will be eyeing for c.f.

Don’t forget Papa Bear Abreu is with him/next to him every day now, and I don’t think he’d allow Yoan to ever get too big for his britches. But I don’t think that’s going on here. He’s just describing his level of comfort today vs. when he first came up.

It'd be hard for Yolmer to cover both 2nd and 3rd at the same time.

This thread is so dumb you should be banned

No thread is dumb. Nobody should be banned.

As far as the topic, no big deal. Moncada is the 2Bman and like somebody said, interviews that use translators aren't very good to begin with.

Thank you Greg. I'm simply asking an honest question. I do not know Moncada personally and I hope that this is just a poor translation. But if there is an attitude issue it could easily grow into a situation leading to a clubhouse problem. We all have seen athletic prima donas. That particular quote just hit me wrong, but as I said in the beginning, it could well be a misquote.

The Sox would be nuts to give yolmer the job over yoan. Yoan has one of the highest ceilings in the entire majors. He proved himself last season. The dude is the future of the sox. Don't see any issue with this.

Yoan is in the futue of the Sox, However, Jiminez is the really big piece.

Nothing wrong with respectfully voicing (writing?) your opinion.

But I really don’t see the issue here.

If they both reach their potential, Moncada and Robert will put up even bigger WAR numbers due to athleticism and defensive ability.

You could even say the same about Tatis, Jr.

He hit .230 last season. He may have a bright future but it's a long stretch to say he proved himself.

One of the reasons I like SoxTalk over the other White Sox sites is because fans can be very open expressing their opinions. White Sox Interactive has banned a number of people I know for making comments that their administrators considered offensive. I was banned their recently for a week because they they didn't like my comments about Hahn and the White Sox organization. Even tho they lifted my ban I don't think I will post there anymore.
