Madson should have never been closing, but how in the hell do the Cubs develop guys like Bote?  Miller has dominated righties this year, while Madson is worse against them.  Martinez is a HORRIBLE manager.

BA has an article about how the Cubs lost one of their top 2017 international free agents (https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/how-the-cubs-lost-their-top-2017-international-prospect/). It's behind a paywall, but an older article on a Cubs site (https://www.thecubreporter.com/06222018/manfred-cracks-down-mexican-league) seems to suggest the Cubs were may not playing by the rules.

Does the BA article mention the Cubs skirting the rules?

theo is a really good line pusher.   because of him the MLB has changed a few rules because he finds gaps in them.

No shit. The fact that Hahn was able to pull that off was a fucking miracle. Quintana isn't the same pitcher he was from 2014-16 with the Sox, that is for sure. He's completely lost his command which is what made him a TOR starter. The question is now, if Quintana continues to pitch like a 5th starter in 2019 do they even pick up his 2020 option? Hell, do they even pick up his 2019 option? They're right in the heart of their competitive window and the prudent thing to do is to launch him and spend that money on someone else, if they're smart enough to realize what sunk cost is. We'll see how big Theo's balls are by whether or not they pick up his option.

It's $10.5 million, what are they gonna spend that money on, the next Tyler Chatwood?  Of course they are going to pick up his 2019 option, it would be downright silly not to.

Obviously they'll have to spend about double that to pick up someone of note. I still maintain they can't afford to waste another season of their window waiting for Q to get his shit together. If they do pick up his option they shouldn't count on him to be anything more than their 5th starter. Or they pick it up and trade him to try to recoup something back. It isn't working for Q on the north side. I'm not sure they can afford to have two starters in Q and Darvish trying to get their shit together next year. I'd love to see it though. The more seasons the Cubs waste of their window, the better.

.400 BABIP. Maybe he's a useful player but this won't last long.

highest exit velocity in baseball (we've heard that before).  Thing that impresses me the most is his defense at 3rd is absolutely incredible.

Exactly,at minimum he's playing a stellar defensive 3b for them. Their development team just keep hitting.
