Wise Master Buehrle
Today's Daily Herald says that the Sox might have been or might soon be in talk with Mark Grace for a managerial position. I don't have the article with me because I'm at school, but if you're interested, pick up a Daily Herald.
southsider2k5
You have got to be kidding me. This would be a horrible move.

RibbieRubarb
He could be looked at as a new hitting instructor in the minor league system. The source is rather vague.

MurcieOne
That wont happen.... Grace will not be the manager of the sox in 2004. Im almost positive that the writer meant he will be a hitting coach or something.
Wise Master Buehrle
There was an undisclosed source, I'll get the article when I get home. And it was for manager, not hitting coach. I as well doubt it'll happen, but Barry Rozner said it was a possibility. Grace expressed that he wants to become a manager. He said he mostly wants to manage the Diamondbacks, but he doesn't care when, as long as he does sooner or later. Rozner also said he'd be a firey manager who would get in the face of our "boring" guys. I do think someone with experiance would be better though. DBAHO
He mite hav a chance of managing in Arizona cos Brenly's on pretty thin ice over there in da desert. (Does that make sense?)
DBAHO
This is from ESPN, Grace expects to land a job with Arizona. "Somehow, some way, I'm sure that we haven't seen the last of me in this Diamondbacks' organization," he said. A spot in the broadcast booth is his if he wants it, but Grace has indicated a desire to coach and someday manage. "My gut feeling is, and I'll say publicly, that I'm not sure he wants to take the uniform off," Colangelo said. "We'll have to determine whether that means being part of the organization in some capacity that still includes wearing a uniform, or to talk about the booth. I don't know, but he knows there's an opportunity here for him."
Kid Gleason
I think Grace is great, and he was always a sore spot for me as I hated the Cubs (still do), but I always thought he was one of the coolest guys in baseball. Anybody remember that rainout the Cubs had, and when the team was sitting in the dugout, Grace was in the outfield playing games with the fans and giving away bats, balls, and anything else he had to give? Always seemed to be a guy who loved what he did and loved the people that came to see him do it. On the managerial spot, down the road I think he would be a great manager, but this Sox team needs an experienced mind NOW. Our players are good enough to go all the way, they just lack direction, and Grace (or anybody) in their first year won't know exactly how to point the direction. We need somebody who knows how to do it from that side of the bench.
Steff
Mark isn't leaving Arizona. He just finally got settled into his new house, and his wife is about to have another baby. Come back to Chicago.. by choice?
Rex Hudler
Birmingham will need a new hitting coach in 2004.
The Critic
If ME-boy is EVER named to a coaching position with the White Sox, I would have to reconsider watching the Sox anymore. That guy is a jackass, a phony and the complete opposite of a team player. There is no "i" in team, but there's an M and and E on the ends of that asshole's name. He is a perfect example of CubDumb ( thanks, Killa ) and I NEVER want to see him in a Sox uniform. Many a sCrUB has poisoned the Sox uniform ( among them Kessinger, Santo, Jaime Navarro, Bruce Kimm ) - haven't we learned from the past??? Rex Hudler
How in the hell did Bruce Kimm poison a Sox uniform??
Kid Gleason
"There is no "i" in team, but there's an M and and E on the ends of that asshole's name." Are we talking about Grace? There's no "M" at the end of his name. Seriously though, I always heard that he was all about the team, and that was one of the problems he had with Sammy was that Sammy was all about himself. I have heard nothing other than Grace being a rock solid guy who is extremely down to earth and all for the team.
Rex Hudler
I for one, always liked Grace as a player and would welcome him.

I believe that everything was sunshine and blue skies when ME-boy was "Mr Cub Version 2.0", but when Sofa came along and started stealing his spotlight, he couldn't take it. He's a phony, reminds me of Gary Carter. When he stopped being able to talk about himself to the press cuz he sucked, he became the Mike Magnet for the DBacks, offering his useless opinions and boring stories about everyone and everything. Wherever he goes, I will avoid him. What a tool....
Kid Gleason
When was his first year to wear that putrid blue? Sammy went to the t-ball league in, was it '90? They both were on the team for years, either way. Or do you think that when Shammie turned into the hitmachine that Grace got uppity? This is the great thing about this game, everybody has such different views on all these people. I just always figured Grace was almost universally loved and that was a big reason that they have been saying he has a job almost wherever he chooses to go. Is there anybody in BBall that IS more or less universally loved, or hated? Aside from Conseco and Bell that is. They are gone, so I guess they don't count. If they do count, I guess you could mention Ty Cobb to the hate list.

Texsox
I think Sandburg, Grace, and Sosa should go on tour and entertain the fans. Perhaps a new reality tv show. Lock the three up in a house and see who survives. Grace won't be in a Sox uniform except to piss off the ScRubs, which would be kind of fun. Think Mr. Banks would like a stint as honorary ambassador?
Chisoxfn
I for one, always liked Grace as a player and would welcome him. I am with you. Grace is definately one of the bigger characters in the majors but he also understands the game. I see him keeping a lose clubhouse while commanding his players respect at the same time. Actually in some weird way I liken him to a Dusty Baker.

The Critic
I think when Corky started taking attention away from Mr. Markrophone, THAT's when he started showing his true colors. And as far as universally loved ballplayers, I think there aren't too many people who hated Tony Gwynn. Can't think of many others - almost everybody's hated by somebody...usually by ME. YASNY
I think Grace had problems with Shamme because Sosa was so "ME" oriented. Grace didn't appreciate it any more than a good Sox fan did. Sounds like our kinda guy to me.
