Cerbaho-WG
http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/1225/1482297.html With Clemens, it will be 150 million. Now, since the Yanks can't get under it now, they'll have to pay roughly a 55 million dollar "fine" for being over. If a 215 million dollar payroll doesn't buy you a WS, I don't know what will. If a 215 million dollar payroll doesn't buy you a WS, I don't know what will. there are several questions that comes to mind will they make money this yr? answer is yes. will the fans be in the stands? the answer is yes. will they make the playoff? the answer is yes and they might go deep in the playoff. is that money a good investment and return for the dollar? the answer is yes. I thought you pay .5 mil for every 1 mil your over the cap. So if the Yankees have a 150 million dollar payroll, they only pay 16.5 million in fines. soxfan420
the yankees make so much money they could push it to 200 million of they wanted to and still make enough money for stienbriers cars, houses etc.
LDF
bottom line, here is an owner who is willing to outbid anybody and is willing to to have pay a tax in order to win. i can live with that. one does not have to go penny to penny with him, but go after someone who can bridge the gap and help us win the championship. we have most of the pieces in place. btw i was reading an article that states the price of fa is down compare to what it was last yr. i think it was on espn, i didn't post it b/c some of the name mention was not even on the same team that was being reported. it is being lazy not correcting the error. soxfan420
baseball needs a salary cap of 117 million i think not a tax on anything after 117 more than 117 you should not be able to play if your payroll excedes that and forfeit every game. I'm trying to get the point across that the Yankess ruin competitve balance. Did they really need Contreras, or Matsui? No, but did the Red Sox need them? Of course they did. The Yankess simply buy everything to ensure their own dyansty. And you think that this is all hunky-dory and good for baseball? You deserve the name calling, because you just don't get it. I try and lay out the scenario and you just shrug it off and say how Steinbrenner is caring about winning blah blah. You just don't get it.
