The Critic
I'll tell you, I am LIKING what I'm seeing so far from the Hawks. Good passing, puck control, hitting, it's all looking good right now! Don't know about the long haul, but the young Hawks impress me so far!

BridgeportHeather
Critic, Know that the Blackhawks are my #1 sports passion...I'm a moderator at the boards of, as well as game reporter, for Blackhawkzone.com. You MUST check it out if you like hawky like you so do. I'm getting excited about the development of the young guys like Calder, Arnason, Bell, Vorbiev, Ruuttu, Kukkonen (he may make the cut), and Leighton. This should be a more exciting year than last. The Critic
Heather, I lurk a little at Blackhawkzone.com, and I registered last year for the message boards ( although I can't remember my screen name ). I got kinda turned off by the endless bickering between the TBO lovers and the TBO haters, among other minor things. I'll probably re-register this year ( and WRITE my screen name down!! )
southsider2k5
They kind of remind me of the 90 Sox. Not a whole lot of expectation, but really looking forward to the kids being a breath of fresh air. And maybe they could surprise someone. The defense is the key. If the D can do something this year it could be interesting.

That's why I wish they shoulda brought in a veteran d-man e.g Klee, Hatcher etc. cos da defense is gonna be da key for em. Deron Quint ain't gonna cut it, but I really like the look of Babchuk and Kukkonen looks a very steady playa. If they can get a full season out of Daze, I think they'll sneak into the #8 spot for da playoffs.

We're not even going to have to worry about Quint here...The best he'll do is a trip to Norfolk...And why bring in a Hatcher or the likes when the CBA is up after this season? They should wait until AFTER the CBA is all ironed out before making any big signings. This is why there aren't many contracts that extend past this season. Hmm I suppose but I mean Toronto just signed Klee on a 1 year deal and Chicago could have done that. He's gettin da same money as Igor Borolev down at Norfolk. What a joke. SAVVY18
I would rather see the opportunity to let a kid play and develop than to bring in a vet on a short term deal. The experience will benefit us more in the long haul. Yes the kid will make some errors, but I am willing to live with them. I agree that there is some bickering over at BHZ, but it is the same that goes on at any board. It is still the best place for any Hawks info. Oh yeah... :fthecubs

The Critic
Have they played a game yet? No. Preseason means jack Spoilsport Number Two!!! As long as they play hard and don't play stupid, I'll be satisfied. Looks like they'll give "the kids" ( and doesn't that phrase sound like surrender since a few years ago? ) every chance to play, and that is a GOOD thing. I am getting tired of the Hawks being the Last Stop for aging veterans. Besides, I have to get my NHL fix before the lockout next season! I think for the first time in a long time there is actually some exciting young players to watch instead of coked out losers, and washed up old timers. In a couple of years this team could be a good playoff team.

Do I expect them to sip "fine shompanya" from Lord Stanley's Goblet anytime soon? ........NO. Do I think they'll be a fun team to watch as they try to regain respectability, a la the Bulls current program? .....I think they can, and I have a feeling they will. You can be sure that a Sutter team will play hard, and if the power play can do halfway decent this team MAY be able to steal enough games to sneak into the 8th spot. I hope they do, because they've always been my favorite Chicago team and I REALLY want them to be good again. I understand ALL TOO WELL the obstacles in the way ( obstacles named Wirtz, who doesn't give half a damn if this team EVER wins the Cup ) and I know their history - "Once we have to pay, they go away". I just want them to compete...
