Cedeno and Gomez logic?

I was under the belief they signed the both of these to try and catch lightning in a bottle, and hopefully trade them if they had value. Cedeno has a .96 era and Gomez 1.40. I just don’t see a reason these 2 need to be  in Charlotte with how well they’re pitching. Shouldn’t they both be in Chicago now so they can be dealt at the deadline if all goes well? If they suck it just helps solidify our top 5, or better, pick in next years draft. Does anyone have an idea why they’re not on the Sox roster right now?

So which to relievers do you move down?  Don't forget we are making roster spots very soon for Rodon and probably Kopech, with Hector Santiago dropping from the rotation to the pen in all likelihood.

They definitely like having a few guys in the pen that can throw a few innings since the rotation is young.

Right, I guess I was assuming Santiago would also take that role soon.

Volstad and Beck have no trade or future value to this team. If Gomez and Cedeno thrive they get traded. They’re not getting traded while they’re dominating on Charlotte’s roster

I don't think Cedeno or Gomez have any value either, but I'd definitely make that change once Hector is back in the pen for good.

Realistically, this is true.  Even if called up today, they would have such as short period of time between now and the deadline, that it would be nearly impossible for them to establish value.

Them not having any trade value would have to be determined by what they do in Chicago. Not Charlotte. It just seems odd that they were signed because of the big league experience they have. Now they’re pitching well in Charlotte and are blocked by Volstad and Beck.

Yah, I agree.

I think it has more to do with their ability to pitch a few innings, and the fact that they've both been decent, especially Volstad.

Cedeno was a 31 year old free agent who pitched all of 3 innings last year.  He also already has about 4 1/3 years of experience at the major league level so if he had played 2/3 of a season with the big league club, he would have been a 2nd year arb guy, so his cheap years are gone.

Gomez was a 30 year old who also could not find a major league deal this winter and was really bad at the major league level his last two years, and would qualify for free agency with 26 days on the roster.

I mean sure they could have built value, but realistically, they would have had to make the major league roster out of spring training to really do so to prove to teams that they could do it for 3 or 4 months.  In a call up today they have about 8 weeks to prove that, which is probably too narrow of a window.  Maybe you get something for them, but this is not a Tommy Kahnle situation where he was still a full season away from arbitration for the first time.  Neither player is that young either to where teams can see some upside, nor are they getting the cheap years.

Then too, there is the perspective that they might be able to help this team. Perhaps instead of thinking about flipping them, they could actually be useful. Oh wait, I forgot. We are trying to tank, again. Never mind.

It feels like the only purpose they have is to fill out a minor league roster. I have to control my curious by nature self from now on every time I notice their stat lines in the Knights box score. Hahn’s job must be tougher than it looks. ?
