PolishPrince34
The Yankees have sent left-handed reliever Caleb Frare to the White Sox in exchange for $1.5MM in international bonus pool money, Jack Curry of the YES Network tweets.

Dick Allen
This basically cost the Sox nothing. They weren’t going to spend that money. He was really tough in AA. Maybe they found something. Definitely worth the deal.
PolishPrince34
New York will now say goodbye to Frare, whom it selected in the 11th round of the 2012 draft. The 25-year-old did not rank among the Yankees’ top 30 prospects at MLB.com prior to the trade, though he did dominate at the Double-A level this season. Frare recently earned a promotion to Triple-A Scranton, where he only threw one inning, after opening 2018 with a .62 ERA/2.24 FIP and 11.75 K/9 against 3.09 BB/9 across 43 2/3 Double-A frames. Earlier this season, Frare’s manager at Trenton, Jay Bell, told Randy Miller of NJ.com that “he’s starting to figure it out,” thanks in part to a fastball that sits in the 93-94 mph range. GenericUserName
Looks like he has some killer stats as a closer in AA, but he is also 25, so IDK. This seems like a weird trade especially because he is another guy that will have to be on the 40 man, is a bullpen piece at best, and it seems like a lot of the international slot compared to what we got for it last year. BamaDoc
Tommy John in 2012. Missed 13 and 14 seasons. Improved command this year. I found mid 90's fastball, good slider, and flashes a change up. Previously lefties gave him trouble and now excelling vs them. On July 6 lefties hitting .182 and righties .179 Said to be able to go multiple innings. Guess AAA to start. September call up if doing well?
BamaDoc
Will need to be protected on 40 man if does well. Hence if he is not injured and pitching well, I think we will see him this year.
GreenSox
They really need to move Avilan and Cedeno now....although they'd probably move them for more rule 5 guys and they could also just leave them unprotected anyway. But they will expose some interesting players. The unprotected Jake Peter has yielded 2 players. Edited July 29, 2018 by GreenSox
GenericUserName
The Yankees would‘ve had to add Frare to the roster this fall or expose him to Rule 5. With his numbers and being a LHP, he surely would have been taken. Last month, a scout was telling people in Trenton that Frare was the best relief arm he’d seen in upper levels of NYY system. — Mark Feinsand (@Feinsand) July 29, 2018
Kyyle23
I have only seen a picture of him mid-motion, does he throw side arm/submarine?
Chicago White Sox
I wonder if adding Frare & Medeiros means the Sox are more open to moving Fry if the right package came along. That’s probably a bit of a hot take, but adding another lefty when we still haven’t moved Avilan & Cedeno and have Bummer waiting in AAA is interesting nonetheless. BlackSox13
I don't know anything about Frare but his AA numbers are ridiculous so I like this trade.
wrathofhahn
Why do we never spend our INT bonus money? Cheap MF'ers
BigHurt3515
Nowadays it is always great to have good relief pitchers. They are always needed at the trade deadline so the more we have the better for us

ScootsMcGoots
Awesome. Lots of relief pitching in the system to pick from. One of the most important pieces to a contender, often put together last, we potentially have it in our system currently. Never have enough pitching. bmags
Yeah this guy should be in majors this year. It’s not like we won’t have a difficult rule 5 decision too. If he looks bad, easier to pass him through, if he looks great, protect him.
Sox Fan In Husker Land
This was from March 2017, https://pinstripedprospects.com/five-yankees-prospects-you-don’t-know-but-should-19535/ Quote CALEB FRARE The Yankees drafted Frare in the 11th round of the 2012 draft, and the now 23-year is entering his final season before he is eligible for the Rule-5 draft. After not playing in 2011 he made his professional debut in 2012 with the Gulf Coast League Yankees where in 10 games, two starts, he was 2-1 with a 2.74 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. But the injury bug bit he missed the 2013 and 2014 season due to undergoing Tommy John surgery and being hit by a car. He made his way back from injury and moved full-time to the bullpen and earned a 6-3 record with a 2.91 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 55 2/3 innings over 37 games for both the Charleston RiverDogs and the Tampa Yankees. Frare returned to Tampa for the 2016 season and earned a 3-3 record with a microscopic 0.92 ERA in 49 innings over 32 games, striking out 52 and limiting hitters to just a .198 batting average. His success earned him a promotion to Trenton for the playoffs where he pitched just 1/3 of an inning and striking out the lone batter he faced. He will have the chance to show what he can do out of the bullpen this year for the Trenton Thunder.
