southsider2k5
Well that answers the question as to if the Sox are going to move Castillo this winter. Very surprised by this to be honest, but at the same time, they must think that Seby is ready enough if a 3rd catcher is needed.

Light hitting catcher who was ok defensively. No big loss, do wish him the best of luck though.

ChiSox59
Wish kevan the best. A little surprised they didn’t want to ship castillo off and keep kevan but no big loss.
Southwest Sider
Not the most likely of scenarios, but there was discussion that Castillo is one of Machado's best friends, and could potentially help with recruitment of Manny. Maybe they will keep him around for this purpose.

SoxAce
Wish Kevan the best. Was great with that young staff and was our best pitch framer. I know he is close with alot of guys on that team.
Y2Jimmy0
They tried to outright Smith and couldn't get him through. They need to add Seby Zavala to the 40-man. There's no way they could keep 4 catchers on the 40 man.
justBLAZE
Couldn't Sox pull him back and trade to trade for a fringe prospect?

pcq
They can't let Wel go when they still owe him. Imagine an All-Star team of Sox FAs.

Wanne
This makes me pretty sad. Will always root for Kevan Smith. Just a damn good guy too!
CaliSoxFanViaSWside
Smith was a good soldier. He did his job when called upon and did it well. I wish him the best. Will always remember the HR he hit wearing the special jersey's with Daniel Webbs name on it. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/kevan-smith-honors-daniel-webb-style-players-weekend-home-run

jasonxctf
He had the highest batting average on the team, for those with 100AB or more.

He has no power though and he's already like 30 years old. I don't know why people (especially on Twitter) are making such a huge deal out of this. He isn't that good and wasn't the future at the catching position anyway. Who cares.

He's easy to root for and produced at the plate (despite lack of power)? And he was probably our better defender and framer of the group so that matters for the pitchers, even if he was unlikely to be on the team after next year.
