How do you guys feel about Ronny Santo?

Does he play into your feelings about the Cubs?

I, in this situation, normally would cheer AGAINST the cubs, but you have to give it up to Ronny Santo, he shows an enthusiasm for the Cubs that is unmatched.

You could hear the enthusiasm and the pain that he feels in his radio calls. Does anyone remember his call for Brant Brown in '98, "OH NO!!! He Dropped the BALL!!!" That was some good laughs for us sox fans at the time. I thank him for that.

The man has been through a lot, and deserves to see the cubs win it all. This is a man who belongs in the Hall of Fame, in my humble opinion.

So, weighing my normal reasons to cheer against the Cubs.... Sammy Sosa and Cubs fans who know nothing about their own team....

against reasons to cheer for the Cubs, everyone on the team BUT Sosa, namely Prior and Wood, loyal and knowledgable Cubs fans (gotta respect those), and Ronny Santo....

I've decided to cheer for the Cubs.

IM not going to cheer for the Cubs, just based on Ron Santo, but if anyone says there not rooting FOR Ron Santo, because he was a Cub, is a dickhead. I wish Ronny the best of luck, he loves his team, and has alot of heart. I hope he gets well soon.

I also wish Ron Santo well.

I'm not surprised that you guys feel this way. And you guys put your feelings into words very well.

I guess I'm just a bleeding heart.

So what has changed from the Braves series to the Marlins series? I don't know.

I like the Braves I guess. That's prolly why I cheered against the Cubs so hard.

but I don't like a franchise that blows up whatever championship team they have to assemble.

Santo is a terrible announcer, but he loves the team and seems like a heck of a guy. I know a guy who worked at his restaurant and said he had met Santo on numerous occasion and that he was a hell of a nice guy. I hope he gets well soon, but I hope his team fails miserably.

I totally respect Ron Santo. Was a helluva ballplayer and is probably my favorite player that can be considered a Cub. But there is no way I will root for the Cubs. I've made too many friends on here in the Chicago area and I don't want you to have to put up with a years worth of crap from Cub fans. Of course, dethroning them next year would be awesome!!!!

Well, you know, he has had both legs cut off. So it hasn't been all peaches and cream.

I can't stand him in the radio booth, he's absolutely awful. Good player, hall of famer as far as I'm concerned.

And, oh yes, f*** the Cubs and all Cub fans.

The Marlins may have blown the 97 team up, but they sure got back to serious contention in a hurry! Must give them credit for that. They rebuilt a lot faster than "other teams" who let the kids play...

Oh, and Ron Santo is a dips***. A good-natured dips*** who means well, but a dips*** nonetheless. And a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE broadcaster, who adds less to a broadcast than anyone except maybe Joe Carter.

I was hoping they would have let him into the Hall Of Fame ( even though I think his numbers are borderline at best ) JUST so I wouldn't have to hear or read about it anymore. He was a very good major-league 3B, but I'm not entirely convinced that very good is enough for the Hall Of Fame.

Don't forget, he played for our Sox, too.

I love Santo.

That interview he did with Mike shannon I heard one night had me captivated

for 40 minutes.

His stories about getting drunk with Drysdale and his disease were unreal.

With the Sox, he was as bad on the field as is he is now in the booth.

No. His condition has no bearing on how I feel about the team does...sure, it'd be nice for him whatever.......Bulls***.

So many old f***in' men have died similar deaths waiting for this s***ty franchise even to win a pennant. Have they won for Mr. f***in' Cub? Harry (tho his true team did win it all)? For all the saps paying over face value for tickets? Hell no!!

I wish well for Ronnie, a class guy, top two or three in his position back then, but what happens to him doesn't change anything here w/regards to the team's play.

For clarification. I have since changed my views.

when the cubs lost, I felt a little happy that they lost game 1.

when they won game 2, I felt angry.

So now my feelings are clear.

I was confused. And I tried to bring myself to cheer the cubs... but I just couldn't do it with any real enthusiasm.

Did Santo come over before or after Kessinger? How many other guys have moved back and forth? Sosa of course.

I like Santo and as a 3rd baseman, I think he deserves to be in the HoF. The veterans committee will add him, probably and sadly, after he dies.

I'm trying to be happy for the Cubs. 99% of Cub fans are fine. It's the in your face ass holes with something to taunt us with that really piss me off. I now have a great deal of respect for Mets fans. That has to be so much worse than this.

Santo played for the Sox in 1974. Kessinger from 77-79. Kessinger was fired as Sox manager (well he sorta resigned) the same day Thurman Munson crashed his plane.

A partial list of those who have played for both teams: Steve Stone, Scott Fletcher, Vance Law, Robert Machado, Kenny Lofton, Randy Martz, Pat Tabler, Warren Brusstar, Steve Trout, Dick Tidrow, Jim Essian, Bob Molinaro, Lynn McGlothen, Steve Renko, Thad Bosley, Phil Regan, Ken Frailing, Frank Baumann, Jimmy Stewart, Jimmie Schaefer, Dennis Lamp, Ken Kravec, Jay Loviglio, Bobby Bonds, George Bell, Wayne Edwards (I think), Luis Salazar, and the good lord willing, Mike Sirotka.

I'm sure I'm forgetting more famous players.
