BigHurt3515
I am not sure how much longer he has but I am fine with giving him a 3 year deal at this point with a team option as the 3rd year Edited November 14, 2018 by BigHurt3515

hogan873
I'd be fine with a three year deal to keep him around. Depending on what the Sox do this off season, he could still be a big impact in the lineup. Regardless of what they do, he'll be an asset for the younger guys. He's projected to get like $16m in arbitration next season so there's no way he would accept that. Though, I don't think it would take a lot for him to stay since it truly seems like he wants to stay here. bmags
I found it interesting Jose is working with a different hitting instructor this offseason.

Yeah, I was thinking 3/$45 million might get it done.

I'd try like 4/$50 including this year.
raBBit
Given that he's a 1B only (if that) and he'll be 32 in January, his contract is far more dependent on his 2019 season than other players.
greg775
I don't understand how it works. If he's ticketed to make 16 million this year in arbitration, he's probably not in any hurry to sign a 4-year deal for 48 million which probably is fair to both parties. Will he just take the 16 mill? Then sign with somebody in the offseason?
YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
I wouldn't give him $15 million a season moving forward. But maybe that's just me.

Love Jose, but not sure the long term fit is there. Agreed. He's been a great player his entire tenure with the Sox but last year was his worst season by far and he's getting up there in age. Like I said, I'd do a 3 year and $30 million extension. No more.
Greg Hibbard
Pay $16 million re-evaluate after 2019 nobody else will pay him big money considering his age he has a preference for the Sox so they have the advantage in negotiation why on earth do anything else? pcq
God forbid we keep someone as a mainstay said the most anonymous org in MLB. But it's a great place to be from said the players. At some point you take a stand and forge an identity.

If he can't, then next season there are other options on the market who performed better this year who will be available for that same money.
