Actually their f WARs were about the same and Yolmer had significantly more PA. That said, who cares about Diaz? Hahn should be shooting higher. They traded for a super utility replacement without having to deal with Boras ridiculous prices. I get why they made the move though Thorton to me is an overpay Problem for us is we have gaping holes on roster. We don't need a utility guy we need starters.

fredmanrique
this is simply a ridiculous thread. next thing you know an average middle reliever might sign with one of the other 29 teams in baseball!
Bob Sacamano
Not hearing anything about this trade prior to entering this thread, I was so confused. My first thought was: "who the hell is Diaz?" Then after a few comments, I figured out he was a position player. So then I thought: "Oh he's a position player....who the hell is Diaz?" RickinIndiana
If we're going to pick up another middle infielder it would be nice to get one who gets on base once in a while.
NorthSideSox72
The Sox already have Aledmys Diaz on the roster. He goes by the name Jose Rondon.

He's terrible defensively around the infield and we already have 3 guys better between 3B, 2B and SS.

Fair enough , wonder why with your obp stat Houston who is so into analytics would trade for him and so early in the process.

Houston's version of Yolmer, Marwin Gonzalez, is a free agent to be. They have an actual need for a bench infielder for 2019. The Sox don't with Yolmer and Rondon on the roster, and both have more upside remaining. Houston and the Sox are playing different games in the offseason because they are working from different hands.

We should hire the same personnel Houston does, go after the same player they go after, even though we may or may not already have those types of players. Are we seriously going to have a thread created every time the Astros or Cubs make a move asking why is Hahn sitting on his ass?

The price Houston paid and the fact that no one else apparently outbid them should be the two things that are the key here.
