wrathofhahn
Rumor is the Brewers will non-tender him should we have interest? Would allow us to try the Moncada in CF experiment. 10 million isn't too bad he would probably make at least 8 million as a FA Also a guy who could be flipped later assuming he rebounds. I'd take the chance. https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2018/11/30/haudricourt-brewers-face-tough-decision-tender-jonathan-schoop/2150964002/ Edit it's official guess noone wanted to trade for him: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/11/brewers-non-tender-jonathan-schoop-xavier-cedeno-dan-jennings.html

bmags
Schoop and TA on the same offense... not sure about that. OBP needs to come from somewhere big.
TheFutureIsNear
Makes sense to me. If we aren’t in all out spend mode like seem here think Schoop could be a nice low risk/potentially high reward cheap signing.

Man I don't know Schoop is still young and he's just one year removed from a career year when he was 25, was an All Star and came in 12th in MVP voting.Out of all the guys non tendered he could be the best . If they miss out on Machado (pretty likely) and any other potential targets they have in mind, I wouldn't mind seeing if he wants to play 3B. Lillian
He'll be a free agent in 2020, so this is his "contract year". I always like that motivation. He had a down year, caused by his poor post trade numbers. His first half numbers with Baltimore were fine. Sign him to a one year deal, until Madrigal is ready in 2020. That would give him a chance to rebuild his value, for a big free agent contract. Let him play 2ND and give Moncada a year to get comfortable and competent at the hot corner. Sign Brantley to play one corner outfield slot, with Eloy at the other, if they can't sign Harper. Brantley and Schoop added to a line up of Moncada, Abreu, Eloy and Palka and you have a decent top 2/3 of the lineup. The bottom 1/3 would be Castillo, Anderson and Engel or Leury. Someone might correct me if I'm wrong but once non tendered you are a FA right now. From this point forward he is working from contract to contract. If he wanted to sign a 5year $10M contract now he could or 1 year. It's all up to him.

This is not exactly true. His OPS by month : .610/.648/.516/1.056/.613/.526 His worst months weren't even with the Brewers. He just has one insanely hot month that skewed his numbers (that featured 0 walks, for our OBP friends). On the whole, it was a pretty miserable year for him. He’s a free agent with no restrictions, but if a guy with less than five years of service time gets non-tendered the signing team could potentially have multiple years of control even if the player only signs a one year deal. Right but since his free agent year was 2020 anyone signing him to a 1 year contract still gets just one year.

Once the pitchers learned he's an undisciplined hitter they threw him all kinds of junk that he couldn't hit out of the zone. He was kind of like the Avi of 2nd baseman. Hit's well in the zone can't lay off the stuff out of the zone. In that case you really have to have a baseball IQ to survive. Think pitch to pitch, know what the pitchers know even if you have to look at some called strike 3's learn to lay off and make the pitchers throw you strikes. Easier said than done. The thing is I would think if some team wanted him that badly they would have traded for him and tendered him a contract. I would be mildly shocked if he signed for anything more then a year
