hogan873
Lots of encouraging news yesterday. It definitely sounds like the Sox are truly in the running to sign Harper. I don't think money will be an issue. It'll most likely come down to what Harper really wants. Coming to the Sox, he'd have to know and accept that 2019 will still be a building year, and competing for the division and beyond starts in 2020. What the Sox can do that some others may not be able to is build a team around him for years to come. That and he'd instantly be the face of the franchise. OmarComing25
Let’s sign Harper, he still gets to hang with his buddy Bryant, and then after we win the World Series in 2021 Bryce recruits his buddy to the South Side and they finally get to play together. Oh and Eloy Jimenez wins MVP and Dylan Cease wins the Cy Young. Cubs are so shellshocked they move to Portland. You heard it here first. The two teams are rarely in town, at the same time. However, their wives might enjoy being in the same town. Anyone know if they are close? Bigsoxhurt35
That is another notch in the Sox belt. So that could be another reason for him to choose Chicago. I also wonder if Harper wants “his” team. The Sox would certainly be his .
Lillian
Thinking about it, from the wives' perspective, this could be a big positive factor in Harper's decision to come to the Sox. If the Cubs are not in this, the Sox may be his preferred destination.

Spending your summers in Chicago and having a close friend there are a pretty nice selling point.
peppers312
is it too much to ask for both Harper AND Machado for Christmas?
Orlando
Bodes well for the Sox. Didn’t Boras say he already met with every team that’s in?

The players owe tax in every state they work in at that state’s rate. For example, with a 3 game series at the Rockies the player will owe the state of Colorado based on 3/162 of their annual salary. If they play 81 games in L.A. they only pay the 13% on half their salary On average the California penalty works out to about a 5% vs Illinois. Still, 5% of $350M isn’t exactly chump change.
SonofaRoache
If we can nab Harper, I'd like to see a few stop gap arms added as well. It's really important we finish as close to .500 has possible next year. We need some positive vibes and mojo on 35th street.
