The benefit the Sox wouldn't get is luxury tax relief because we will never be close to it. We don't know the structure of the deal. It could be a front loaded deal with the last 3 years paying him like $5 mil each, which would still achieve the same luxury tax effect. Basically whatever Harper gives them from age 37-39 is gravy.
