They dont really need to, their silence says all that needs to be said. And they dont want to put themselves in a position where they can be proven wrong in the highly possible scenario where Machado does sign with NYY.

Why wouldn't it be said? If it was truly fake, at the very least the agent wouldn't want it out there so as there being any chance of bidders moving on to other targets.

Also if you really think about it,  assuming that the reports of MM wanting to be a Yankee were true, why would he leak a report about him being a Yankee?  If anything the leak would be about MM with another team so as to drive up the Yankees bid. He gains nothing by tipping his hand to NYY. And no one of consequence has come out and said it isn't true.

100% agree, they’re not going to call this guy out when he has 1/3 chance (at least) of being right.  Not be able to confirm or even commment on it says a lot IMO.

Isn’t this a Yankees guy too?  I think there is good reason to be skeptical of this Dan Clark guy.

I agree after reading some of his tweets the last month or so he has been pushing the Yankee narrative all December. Could it be true? Sure. But I would think Manny is taking the Holidays to think it over like many people have said (national guys).

You would think if Mannys mind was made up to the point he was telling players he played with he has decided to go to the Yankees, someone other then Dan Clark would have picked up on it and confirmed this rumor.

At this point with all the so called “insiders” that claim they have inside knowledge is useless until Manny or his agent make an announcement. We are still in it till he signs the dotted line.

I hope this turns out this guy is a blowhard and eats his words. I’m really hoping the Sox get one of these two and make a whole lot of people both nationally and on this board eat crow. I’m cautiously optimistic, I think they went into this offseason with a plan to get Manny in particular and have faith they have executed it. Hahn said the money would be there for the last few years so I don’t think that is the issue. If a guys heart is set on playing for his team growing up all we can do is attempt to persuade him with surrounding him with people And players he enjoys being around, and of course throwing a boat load of money at him. By next week I think we will have a better idea how this turns out.

Come on, the White Sox aren’t going to move on to other targets because Dan fucking Clark says Machado has made a decision.  They’d simply call up Manny’s agent and ask him.  And it makes perfect sense to say he’s choosing the Yankees if the Sox & Phillies are offering more money.  The Yankees are the ultimate threat here and the one thing that can force these teams to bid against themselves.

Are you asking why Dan Clark would leak the report? The same reason everyone seems to be clamoring to break the news of these two signings...people want to appear as if they know something others do not. This entire free agent show has turned into a circus.

Frankly its something that needs to be addressed by MLB. The off-season has turned into kind of a nightmare where these sagas go on for months to no real benefit.

You use the team you don't want to go to, not the one you want to go to.

If the process was still open, this would have been shot down hours ago. It would not be a state secret.

Also don't think it's a coincidence that the Sox are linked to Encarnacion and Martinez today.  If it's all true, how pathetic is it that Hahn ended up helping the Indians possibly keep Kluber and Bauer by taking on Yonder's salary?  It's the type of stuff that should get him fired, but we saw in 2016 that he can make horrible decisions and still have job security.

Not if the Yankees aren’t serious contenders. Just because everyone says Manny wants the Yankees doesn’t mean he actually does. It’s been a convenient bargaining chip so far.

Anyway, the simplest explanation for having no confirmation either way from national guys is because they aren’t bothering to check sources based on this report. Even if they were getting “no comments” at this point it would be news.

I think if this process is over it would be known to a lot more people than just Dan Clark and an anonymous former player. Its a huge move, hundreds of millions of dollars changing hands, it would be noticed by more people if it had actually gone down.

Besides, Machado and the Yankees gain nothing by actively suppressing this information once its agreed upon.

Long-term its better for the Sox that the Indians keep Kluber and Bauer another year. Really dont need Cleveland restocking and retooling for a huge run 2-3 years from now.

If “final” bids have been received, this is exactly how you have the Sox & Phillies resubmit their final offers with a much bigger dollar amount.  The agent does not benefit from this rumor being shut down.

Which is why if it were false, MM would have all the reasons in the world to deny. If it is over, it doesn't matter and no need to care.

He benefits more by keeping teams engaged,  not losing them.

Why would Manny want to deny this if he knew the Yankees wouldn’t offer enough and this rumor was an attempt to get us/Phily to increase our offers?

If he wants the Yankees to offer more, the rumor would be that he was signing with someone other than the Yankees to get to offer more. If they are winning there is no reason for them to keep bidding.

So he's not trying to make the Yankees up their offer?

That does not inspire confidence.

I’m not talking about the scenario where he wants the Yankees to offer more. I’m talking about the scenario where he realizes the Yankees can’t come close to the White Sox (or Philadelphia), and he has pretty much settled on signing with us but wants to try to get more money.

Manny Machado and Dan Lozano aren't going to deny something that Dan Clark said. It's Dan Fucking Clark. That dude tweets "rumors" all the time and then deletes the tweets when they don't happen. Machado might go to New York ultimately but he's guessing.
