Theres an argument both ways.

Is 10/300 really that much worse than 8/275?

Technically you could argue that the last 2 years is a 2/25 so thats not really bad. Id basically give him the option, because either would be fine if I was the Sox.

That cost is a good way of thinking about it, I always worry most about how easy it will be to trade. Each extra year of dead money seems harder to shed than sharing one last year or two with exchanging bad contracts.

Regardless, both easy to swallow if it means getting to watch Machado for his age 26-32 seasons.

You don't believe random twitter accounts giving the details of these intense negotiations?!!?

Well, man the nats front office has always leaked like a sieve however.

How much  longer is it going drag out is the next question.

That's the $300 million question. It's getting old. Time for at least one of these guys to get serious and say it's time for the final bids. I don't think, these teams are going to find any more extra money under the cushions.

It's almost like they are catering to the twitter bullshit artists.

No one has any idea what the Nats current offer to Harper is except Harper and his people and the Nats, and if there is some collusion going on, other MLB owners. No one knows where the Sox stand in their bid except Machado and his agent, and whoever he gives the information.

There is so much BS out there, with a dash of truth. We won't know what is what until it's over.

Agreed any numbers out there are pure speculation. No one besides the top levels of the organization agent and client know the numbers. These types of things do not get leaked by organizations.

8/280 for Machado actually seems like a solid deal for the Sox. That's only 35 million a year and the Sox could probably frontload it a bit.

9 years $300M for Machado is good too just sign already.

I would not go past 8 years for either player. You want to pay for a players prime, not the declining years if possible.

Seven would be ideal

How about you do one of those "swellopt" deals for Manny?

7 Years, $250-70 millionish (whatever it is), opt out after 6, White Sox have 2 year option after 6 (boosting it to 8 years over $300 mil).  That way we get a little protection for the deal and Manny and his agent can tell people he got Machado $300 million.

Sure, but Harper is already up over $300 million from his old team if you believe the latest reports.  We are probably talking $350 to $400 million to get him away from Washington.

Like I said it’s not my money. However, the Sox can afford to sign both and it would still leave plenty of room in the payroll. Highly unlikely they’d sign both but one can dream.

Chris russo thinks manny going take a lot less be in new York LOL.

Nobody cares what Chris Russo thinks and to be honest it doesn't matter.  He is just another New York based talking head that opens mouth and says stuff.   We don't need to be updated on his thoughts

If it's done that far ahead, no way they could keep it quiet that long
